Shingo Takagi Defeats Aaron Henare, Comments on Future Opponents

By: Matthew Bergren

The King of Pro Wrestling provisional title holder Shingo Takagi defeated his opponent, Aaron Henare at Korakuen Hall during New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Road to Sakura Genesis tour on April 2. This was an Ultimate Triad Match, which required a pin fall, submission, and knockout to score the victory. Henare scored the first point by submission, followed by a submission by Takagi.

The Dragon scored the first pin, but Henare answered with a pin of his own. After 35+ minutes, Takagi was headbutted by Henare after a back-and-forth battle, but he fired a pumping bomber which dropped both competitors to the mat. Takagi reached his feet at the count of nine to score his final point and end the match. Takagi was assisted out of the ring by Hiromu Takahashi without comment.

Takagi proceeded with post match comments backstage:

“I thought I was going to mic him up a lot today…. Henare is too strong. Thanks to him, Shingo Takagi became strong again. Thanks to him, Shingo Takagi became strong again. Thanks for the most interesting rules this time”.

He went on to address future challengers:

“Next challenger, is there anyone? I heard there will be a Forbidden door in June,” he said, referring to the joint show with AEW this summer. He listed the names of Claudio Castagnoli, Samoa Joe, Bryan Danielson, and others. “Maybe not everyone can go, but I have this belt, and AEW, you better make me a decent offer, too”.

The second edition of AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door will take place June 25 at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Canada.
