Seri Yamaoka has revealed her plans to shed weight and pursue the Marigold Super Flyweight Championship currently held by Mayu Iwatani.
The 18 year old future superstar shocked the Joshi Puroresu world when she defeated Iwatani on Aug. 2nd in a DREAM★STAR GP 2025 tournament bout. Yamaoka became the first competitor to beat Iwatani inside a Marigold ring.
Now that Yamaoka is 1-0 against Iwatani in singles matches, she has decided she would like to face Iwatani again only with the Marigold Super Flyweight Championship on the line.
Yamaoka spoke with Tokyo Sports recently and revealed her plan to lose weight to pursue Iwatani and the Super Flyweight Title. She also stated she wants to wear the Marigold World Championship and United National Championship belts one day.
From Seri Yamaoka:
“I beat Mayu Iwatani this time, so I’m currently losing weight because I want to seriously aim for the Super Flyweight title. I’d also like to win the league and wear the red belt (World Championship) and the white belt (United National Championship). I’ve always been interested in the Super Flyweight title ever since Yuzuki-san held it.”
Yamaoka indicated that it was actually Iwatani that led her to want to pursue a career pro-wrestling:
“It was because of Mayu that I discovered pro wrestling and found something to aim for.”
Getting that victory over Iwatani on Aug. 2nd was the biggest victory in the career, which is less than a year old, of Yamaoka. That victory gave Yamaoka the right to mention she wants a Super Flyweight title opportunity.
Yamaoka is getting down her weight to qualify for a title match and at this point, Iwatani has no reason not to grant the rising star her wish.
