At the May 28th MARIGOLD SHINING ATTACK 2026 event which occurred at Shinjuku FACE, Seri Yamaoka dislocated her shoulder during a British Empire Women’s World Championship bout.
Yamaoka was defending her BEW Women’s Title for the first time against the challenge of Maddy Morgan. About four minutes into the bout, Yamaoka attempted a dropkick on Morgan which connected but she landed on her shoulder which caused it to dislocate. The bout was stopped with Morgan declared the new champion as Yamaoka left the arena via a stretcher and taken to a hospital by ambulance.
Yamaoka took to X today and offered an explanation as to why she suffered a dislocated shoulder. Yamaoka revealed that she has been susceptible to dislocating both her shoulders since middle school that requires surgery. She indicated that she doesn’t want surgery but opted to try and build more muscle instead to prevent a dislocation.
Yamaoka admitted that not taping up her shoulder for the bout was mistake. In addition, she took exception to people who have been saying she that can’t execute a proper dropkick.
From Seri Yamaoka:
I’ve seen comments saying, “Don’t put someone in the ring who can’t even do a proper dropkick,” but even if you think that, I’d prefer you didn’t say it. This might sound like an excuse, but I’ve had a tendency to dislocate both shoulders since middle school when I was wrestling. I know I need surgery, but I don’t want to have it, so I’ve been building muscle to prevent dislocations. However, dislocations don’t heal that easily, My shoulder wasn’t feeling great this time, but I overestimated myself a bit and went into the match without taping it, which led to this outcome. As a champion, I used to think taping looked uncool, but now I wish I’d just taped it up properly. But starting with this match, I’m going to get it fully healed and become a pro wrestler who leaves no room for complaints, so please watch me!
This comes at a very bad time for Marigold as the promotion seems to be getting plagued by injuries to their top stars. In addition to Yamaoka, Mayu Iwatani, Victoria Yuzuki & Erina Yamanaka are all out of action due to injuries.
While there is no timetable for Yamaoka to return to in-ring action, everyone at Monthly Puroresu wishes Yamaoka a speedy recovery and hopes to see her back in the ring very soon.
