Saya Kamitani Wins NJPW STRONG Women’s Title, Becoming Double Champion

By: Noah Leatherland

Saya Kamitani continues to have a stellar 2025 as she adds another championship to her name. Kamitani did battle with AZM in front of a packed Korakuen Hall, managing to retain her World of STARDOM Title and gain the NJPW STRONG Women’s Championship.

AZM gunned for Saya Kamitani, looking to prove herself as the next leader of STARDOM. She had beaten Kamitani during the 5-STAR GP in August, giving her the gumption to challenge for the red belt. The stakes were soon raised to become a double-title match, with Saya Kamitani eyeing AZM’s NJPW STRONG Women’s Championship. The stage was set for a high stakes encounter at the hallowed Korakuen Hall.

Saya Kamitani emerged from the clash as the victor, now with two titles to her name. Kamitani becomes the sixth NJPW STRONG Women’s champion, and AZM becomes the sixth challenger that Kamitani has vanquished. Kamitani’s red belt reign is now closing in on 300 days, having won the title from Tam Nakano back in December. AZM’s reign with the purple belt ends at 141 days, having won it from Mercedes Mone in May.

Following the match, Saya Kamitani was met by her next challenger. Winner of the 5STAR GP Momo Watanabe confronted the double champion and laid out the challenge for both belts. Saya Kamitani will face Momo Watanabe on November 3rd at STARDOM CRIMSON NIGHTMARE.

Saya Kamitani cementing herself at the top of STARDOM was not the only championship action on the show. HANAKO also gained gold, defeating Hina to win the Future of STARDOM Championship. Challenges for upcoming shows were also locked in. Hazuki is set to face Koguma for the CMLL Japan Women’s Championship on October 11th. Elsewhere, Ami Sohrei and Lady C challenged Natsuko Tora and Ruaka for the Goddesses of STARDOM titles. Sareee also addressed Syuri’s desire for an IWGP Women’s Championship rematch, but The Sun God teased that she needs to defend the belt overseas first.
