The ongoing verbal battle between IWGP Women’s Champion Sareee and World of STARDOM Champion Saya Kamitani had taken a short hiatus but a recent flare up has seemingly re-ignited the war.
On Sept. 9th, Kamitani was speaking with the legendary Masahiro Chono and revealed that Sareee is the one opponent she would like to crush.
Naturally, this did not sit well with Sareee and she is definitely not one to keep quiet when challenged. In true Sareee fashion, she shot back at Kamitani’s comment.
Sareee told Tokyo Sports during a recent interview that she saw the statement made by Kamitani and responded with comments of her own. Sareee dared Kamitani to say her words directly to her and not to someone else.
From Sareee:
“It was surprising because I always felt like she was ignoring me. So, she’s finally ready to face me, huh? She was crying and telling Chono-san, ‘She keeps telling me to be a proper heel.’ Telling on me to a legend shows how weak she is. I thought, ‘Say it to me directly.’”
During the course of the interview, Sareee named AEW stars Toni Storm and Athena as potential challengers for her IWGP Women’s Championship.
From Sareee:
“Matches were set against both of them, but for various reasons, they fell through, and I still regret it. Especially Athena—when I first saw her match in NXT, she was the wrestler who made me think, ‘This is how I want to fight.’ I think she’s been doing well since leaving WWE, and I’ve always thought I’d want to face her with this title on the line.”
While matches against Athena and Toni Storm would be interesting, it’s quite obvious it’s a showdown between Sareee and Saya Kamitani that the fans are clamouring for.
Sareee and Kamitani are the two of the very best Joshi pro wrestlers in Japan and quite possibly the world right now. While the verbal battles between the two are adding fuel to the fire, the fans may begin to start thinking that we have had enough talk and it’s time to settle it in the ring.
