Sareee Leaves WWE, Returns to Wrestling in Japan

By: J. Curbelo

After a run that left many questions in the minds of fans, Tokyo Sports reported that WWE NXT’s Sarray will finish her contract with the company and return to Japan, taking back the name she was known for there, Sareee.

Her return match is scheduled for May 16th, in a show dedicated to her, titled “Sareee-ISM”. Sareee made her wrestling debut in 2011 with World Woman Pro-Wrestling DIANA, and became a staple of the independent scene, achieving the top belts in DIANA and Sendai Girls.

In 2020, it was announced that she would be parting to WWE with strong backing from COO Triple H, but the pandemic made her travel to the United States impossible. Sareee was granted an extra year competing in Japan while the situation calmed down. She had a run with SEAdLINNNG’s Beyond the Sea tag team championships with Yoshiko, and was even scheduled to challenge Mayu Iwatani for her -then- World of Stardom Championship. Sadly, that match never came to fruition as Mayu got sick and Sareee was locked away from STARDOM.

Sareee finally made her way to WWE NXT in 2021, now known as Sarray. Unfortunately, the show itself went through a restructure, which also hindered her chances of competing in the roster. She would be repackaged with a controversial magical girl character, and competed in multiple matches within NXT 2.0 and NXT UK, but the company never managed to find proper direction with her.

Sarray’s last match was a loss to Mandy Rose in August of 2022, before traveling back to Japan for undisclosed reasons. The “Warrior of the Sun” was also set to challenge then-NXT UK Champion Meiko Satomura, but the match was canceled along with the show itself. She would not appear in WWE programming anymore afterwards.

Sareee, real name Sari Fujimura, is expected to do a press conference next Monday to announce her return and future plans.
