On August 16th, Ryohei Oiwa reached the highest point of his career thus far when he defeated Yuya Uemura to win NJPW’s G1 Climax 36. Following the monumental victory, Oiwa shared his thoughts on his potential opponent for his IWGP Heavyweight Title match at King of Pro-Wrestling on October 12th.
Before Oiwa gets his shot at the top prize in NJPW, Yota Tsuji must defend his IWGP Heavyweight Championship against Hirooki Goto at Destruction in Kobe on September 27.

During his meet and greet with the media on August 17th, the G1 Climax 36 winner gave his thoughts on the possibility of facing either Hirooki Goto or Yota Tsuji in October.
When asked about Goto, Oiwa seemed very confident, stating that after defeating him in the G1, he is ready to beat him once again.
From Ryohei Oiwa:
“We’re 1-1, but in the G1 I beat him with my headlock and if it comes to it, I’m ready to beat him again.”
When asked about Tsuji, Oiwa’s tone shifted, admitting that he has yet to defeat the IWGP Heavyweight Champion, but says he has a plan for Tsuji’s Fire Blaster finisher if they are to face one another.
From Ryohei Oiwa:
“I’m 0-2 against him, but I am the G1 champion. He has something I don’t, but I have something he doesn’t. The IWGP title is about putting your all into one title match, but G1 is about excellence, mental strength and superiority over a whole month, and if I face Tsuji again, I already have a plan for the Fire Blaster if it comes to it.”
