Ryohei Oiwa Responds to MJF’s Challenge at NJPW Road to King of Pro Wrestling

By: Noah Leatherland

After enjoying a tag team victory at NJPW Road to King of Pro Wrestling, Ryohei Oiwa received a video message from All Elite Wrestling’s MJF. Before Oiwa even has his shot at Yota Tsuji for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship, Friedman has called him out for an inter-promotional battle.

Oiwa responded to MJF’s comments firstly in his post-match comments:

Hey, MJF. Look who’s talking shit now. And seriously, your timing is totally off. Right now, I’m only focused on Yota Tsuji. Listen, I just won the G1, and now I’m focused on Ryogoku. You’re seriously out of touch. Ryogoku—I’ll win the IWGP there, so you better start thinking about that.

The Grip then followed that statement up with a post on social media:

Read the room!
You’ve been mocking New Japan nonstop, but that’s not the point right now, is it?
Right now, I’m only watching Yota Tsuji!

I’ll think about it after I win the IWGP.

In the time since MJF’s video message played in Korakuen Hall, he has shared a statement with Fightful. It reads:

I have a statement for why I’m doing business with New Japan.

It’s a simple one I’d like public.

I want to prove new Japan isn’t a real company.

I want to prove I’m the master of the headlock.

But MOST of all. I want to upset puro twitter.

As of writing, there is no set date for when a clash between Oiwa and MJF might take place.
