Rossy Ogawa Comments On Low Attendance at Latest Korakuen Hall Marigold Event as he Remains Optimistic for the Future

By: Lewis Carlan

The recent string of injuries to a number of Marigold’s top stars had resulted in a negative effect to the promotion and it’s really beginning to show.

On May 16th, Marigold held its latest MARIGOLD SHINING ATTACK 2026 event at the famed Korakuen Hall. The main event featured a Marigold World Championship bout between the current titleholder Miku Aono and her challenger Maddy Morgan. Also on the event was one of the last bouts Utami Hayashishita will compete in as a Marigold pro-wrestler as she is set to depart the promotion on May 23rd.

Despite the high profile bouts, there was a very low turnout for the May 16th Marigold event as the announced attendance was a mere 615 fans. In contrast, Marigold drew over 1,100 fans to its New Years Golden Garden 2026 event on Jan. 24th at Korakuen Hall.

Mayu Iwatani and Victoria Yuzuki, two integral parts of the Marigold roster, are both out indefinitely with injuries. In addition, Erina Yamanaka, who is a freelancer, had been a prominent member of the Marigold roster before suffering an eye injury. Yamanaka made her return during the Hayashishita Gauntlet bout on May 16th but only competed lightly for one minute and is not ready for a full time return.

Marigold has brought in popular freelancer Chi Chi to try and fill the void left by the current rash of injuries.

Marigold owner Rossy Ogawa took to X to comment on the low turnout to the latest Korakuen Hall event and that his promotion will hang in there until the injured competitors return.

From Rossy Ogawa:

“Although Korakuen Hall struggled with attendance, I believe this event laid the groundwork for tomorrow. With Kizuna Tanaka making her first appearance in a while and the arrival of new challenger Chi Chi… we’re going to hang in there until our injured wrestlers return. As Mayu Iwatani said, “With so many young wrestlers, Marigold has a bright future.” We’ll all work together to make Marigold a true “golden garden.”

Marigold is only two years old and like any young promotion they are experiencing growing pains. While it may be a tough time for Rossy Ogawa’s company, they will be bounce back and be just fine. Iwatani, Yuzuki & Yamanaka won’t be injured forever and they have a young core of stars including Seri Yamaoka, Yuuka Yamazaki & Shinno that will lead them to future success.
