Q&A With Megaton On Her Time In Marigold, Darkness Revolution, Mayu Iwatani, Her Fan Popularity & More!

By: Lewis Carlan

Ever since Megaton made her Marigold debut back in Jan. 2025, she has been on a roller coaster ride, experiencing ups and downs within the promotion. She enjoyed success early on as a Marigold competitor which led her to become a member of the Darkness Revolution faction that included CHIAKI, Misa Matsui & Nagisa Nozaki.

After spending several months with Darkness Revolution, she was banished from the group as she was perceived as the weak link of the faction. She teamed with fan favourites Kouki Amarei & Miku Aono as she battled her former unit primarily in tag team bouts.

Once Megaton left Darkness Revolution, her popularity with the fans soared and she became a beloved competitor. Despite becoming a fan favorite, she has experienced a losing streak as of late that she is attempting to turn around.

Megaton will be competing at Marigold’s GRAND DESTINY 2025 event on Oct. 26th against a mystery opponent.

Megaton graciously granted Monthly Puroresu an interview to discuss a variety of topics.

Here is the Monthly Puroresu interview with Marigold star Megaton:

Monthly Puroresu:

You have been competing in Marigold for almost a year now, what do you enjoy most competing inside a Marigold ring?

Megaton:

I’m currently the weakest of the Marigold wrestlers, and amidst all the chaos, I enjoy the moments when the audience smiles and yells “Megaton!! While I’m disappointed when I lose, it makes me think, “Ah, this is where I belong.”

Monthly Puroresu:

In your match with Rea Seto, you tore your pants. While I am sorry that happened, is there an update on the pants? Will they be getting repaired and how did you feel when they tore during the match?

Megaton:

Wow, that was a shock! I screamed in my head, “Wait, this happens now!?”  (laughs) That rip is truly a badge of honor for the fight! Even if my pants rip, I’ll keep moving forward! That’s what I thought. But honestly, the atmosphere was so crazy that my concentration was tested in the second half (laughs). But thanks to the fans’ laughter, it was more fun than embarrassing.

Monthly Puroresu:

Since leaving Darkness Revolution, you became more popular with the Marigold fans. How does this make you feel when you now hear the cheers from the fans?

Megaton:

The cheers of the fans are like background music in the ring! When I yell “Gaaoo!”, everyone yells “Gaaoo!” back, right? In that moment, all the darkness and fatigue disappears. That’s why I want to say the fans are the true light! And Megaton is that light’s reflection! Gaaoo!!

Monthly Puroresu:

You have been on a losing streak as of late. What steps are you taking to try to improve and get back on the winning side of things?

Megaton:

That’s right, I’ve been on a bit of a losing streak. But, as long as I have the “Gaaoo!” from the fans, Megaton won’t give up!! The cheers I hear from the audience after a loss are like an energy drink in the ring! Laugh before you get depressed! Laugh even when you lose! And then I shout “Gaaoo!” together with the fans! That’s my best way to power up. Next time, I’ll place everyone’s “Gaaoo power” on my back and I’ll definitely win!! Getting back up even after losing is the Megaton way! Gaaaooo!!

Monthly Puroresu:

What would you say are your strengths and weaknesses as a pro wrestler?

Megaton:

Strengths? Hmm…first of all, my resilience! Physically, mentally, and even my ripped pants (lol), I’m just tough! No matter how many times I fall down, or how embarrassing it is, I always get up and shout “Gaaoo!” Another strength of mine is being able to absorb the cheers of the fans with my whole body. Everyone’s cheers give me energy, and even if I lose, I can bounce back to “Megaton class” status! As for weaknesses…well…maybe my excitement level is always in 5th gear (lol). I roar with all my might before the match, and sometimes I get a little out of breath during it. But I’d be happy if you could think of these clumsy aspects as part of Megaton’s personality. In the end, win or lose, Megaton can only give it her all. That’s why I’ll continue to roar with my fans!

Monthly Puroresu:

Should you be able to score a few wins in the future, is there a championship within Marigold you hope to pursue?

Megaton:

Of course! I’d love to challenge for a title belt. But I don’t just want to wear a belt, my goal is to “win it together with all my fans.” I’ll escape the darkness, be bathed in light of Marigold, and turn the cheers of my fans into strength. If a chance at a belt is there, I’ll definitely go for it! Plus, the ring might sink a little when Megaton wears the belt (laughs), but I’ll take on the challenge with that kind of  heavy emotion in mind!

Monthly Puroresu:

What has been your most challenging match while in Marigold?

Megaton:

The most difficult one was definitely my singles match against Utami Hayashishita right after my debut. Utami’s moves were top-notch, both in terms of sharpness and power. And she had beautiful eyes! I felt that tension, knowing that if I let my guard down even for a moment, she’d take me down in an instant. Honestly, during the match, I was painfully aware of how lacking my own strength was. But at the same time, my desire to become stronger and win in this ring was more burning than ever. I’ll never forget the kind words the fans gave me after the match. “Even if you lose, Megaton is still Megaton!” they told me. Those words really touched my heart. That match made me who I am today.I hope to face Utami again someday, and this time, repay her with a win. Gaaoo!

Monthly Puroresu:

Tell me the story of you deciding to become a pro-wrestler? Was there anyone that inspired you to pursue professional wrestling?

Megaton:

It was Fuka, Marigold’s assistant producer. It’s a little complicated, but Megaton fights in the ring by possessing the body of Moyoko Todoroki. Todoroki was appearing in dramatic wrestling shows, and I gradually became addicted to wrestling and decided I wanted to go pro.

Monthly Puroresu:

Back in August, you were in the ring against Mayu Iwatani as part of a six woman tag team match. What are your thoughts on Iwatani-san and how do you feel she has helped Marigold since arriving back in July?

Megaton:

When I first met her, I thought she had an incredible aura. In her first match, she ran so much that I was like, “Wow, they’re making her do all that ropework?” It was a match that made use of Megaton, lol. She was so powerful that I was instantly defeated (tears).Marigold has shone even more since Mayu joined! There’s no doubt that the number of spectators has increased, and when I look at Mayu’s fans’ social media, I see comments like, “Mayu is the reason I can do my best!” and “I’ll work hard tomorrow for Mayu,” and I can see how much influence Mayu has. It’s a miracle that Megaton is in the same organization as such people! I’m so grateful.

Monthly Puroresu:

What does Megaton do for fun when you are not competing?

Megaton:

I go to see pro wrestling matches, go to the personal gym, and go to the onsen.

Monthly Puroresu:

What does a typical day off look like for you?

Megaton:

With the motto of “delicious, fast, and cheap,” I cook my own meals and drink delicious beer from around the world.

Monthly Puroresu:

What was your experience like appearing on Monday Magic? Would you like to appear on the show again?

Megaton:

I was enchanted by Monday Magic and had a truly great experience! Fighting against Takumi Iroha, Great Sakuya and Sora Ayame, and teaming up with MIRAI and Miyuki Takase, were like a dream come true. The crowd rang out Megaton calls, and it was truly a magical time! If I could, I’d perform every time.

Monthly Puroresu:

How do you feel about competing in GRAND DESTINY 2025?

Megaton:

It still hasn’t really dawned on me. Could it be? Megaton? At Ryogoku Kokugikan? A singles match? A match? And no matter who mystery opponent big-shot M is, I want to challenge them without flinching, in true Megaton style.

Monthly Puroresu:

What does the future hold for Megaton?

Megaton:

No matter what the future holds, I want to continue standing in the ring with smiles on my face. Win or lose, if the audience smiles and says, “Megaton was fun again today!”, that will be the greatest victory!

Monthly Puroresu would like to extend our sincere gratitude to DSF Marigold for facilitating this interview with Megaton and providing the English text translation.
