Many people come and go in the japanese wrestling scene, but if there’s one who has stuck around since the turn of the milennium, it’s Masahiro Takanashi.
A nineteen year veteran of wrestling who started under the legendary Ultimo Dragon, Takanashi has worked for a wide-spanning number of promotions in Japan – Ice Ribbon, YMZ, DDT, Gatoh Move and even has a lookalike in Tokyo Joshi Pro-Wrestling known as Martha, who is a member of the French aristocratic NEO Biishiki-gun unit.

Since 2003, Masa has worked for DDT, most recently capturing the DDT Universal championship from MAO, as well as being a former KO-D tag champion alongside his Calamari Drunken Kings partner Chris Brookes. His ability to adapt to both a comedic and serious in-ring style has made him the perfect ambassador for DDT in the last decade and his former championship history with the company only reinforces his legendary status within the promotion, including boasting 21 DDT Ironman Heavymetalweight championship reigns.

His team with Brookes as CDK has also made waves outside of the confines of DDT itself, regularly teaming in Gatoh Move as the current Asia Dream Tag champions whilst also making recent appearances in SETUP Pro-Wrestling in Thailand and soon in Brookes’ home country of England at PROGRESS in September.

He may have an eccentric personality and exciting in-ring style that makes him this week’s one to watch, but this saturday Masahiro Takanashi defends his DDT Universal title against former Universal champion Yuki Ueno at Wrestle Peter Pan 2022 on WrestleUNIVERSE.
