NJPW kicked off a new edition of G1 Climax, a tournament considered one of the most important in professional wrestling. The 35th edition continues on July 22, 2025, with a nine-match card in Sendai. The main event featured a singles match between Yota Tsuji and Yuya Uemura.

In the first match, Moloney and Ishimori defeated YOSHI-HASHI and Kato. A fast-paced fight with complete dominance by the Bullet Club members. Moloney and YOSHI-HASHI are the only undefeated members of the tournament’s Block B. The winner will become the sole leader.
In the second match, HoT defeated El Phantasmo and Jado. Narita hasn’t forgotten HoT’s classic tricks, and that allowed them to secure the victory. Can ELP survive HoT’s tricks? Will Narita have to use their pure wrestling arsenal to defeat ELP?
In the third match, the Don Callis family defeated United Empire. Takeshita remains at a very high level and complements Rocky very well. O-Khan is an unconventional opponent, but that’s precisely what makes him more dangerous. Can Takeshita bounce back after his loss to ELP? Will O-Khan be the one to maintain his momentum after defeating Takagi?

In the fourth match, TMDK defeated Umino and Murashima. We had a quick preview of another rematch from Wrestle Kingdom 19. Sabre Jr. fell last and dominated Murashima. Can Sabre Jr. score two more points? Will Umino be the one to score two points and avenge his loss at the Tokyo Dome?
In the fifth match, Oiwa defeated Newman. It was a good match to kick off the Block A matches of today’s G1 Climax 35. It was very evenly matched over the 10-minute duration. Oiwa won again with THE GRIP Lariat and now has four points. Newman couldn’t maintain the momentum after defeating Tanahashi last week.
In the sixth match, Boltin defeated Tanahashi. A good fight, somewhat different from last year’s G1 Climax 34 Qualifying Play-Off. In the final stretch, Boltin caught Tanahashi attempting a High Fly Flow and performed a Kamikaze to take the victory. Boltin now has 4 points, while Tanahashi remains at 0 points. “The Ace” has the Taichi tiebreaker in his favor.

In the seventh match, SANADA defeated EVIL. It was a necessary bout to lower the intensity and allow the crowd to relax before the final part of the show. SANADA outsmarted EVIL and took the victory over his HotT partner. EVIL remains on 4 points, but SANADA secures his first 2 points, and EVIL’s tiebreak could be decisive.
In the eighth match, Taichi defeated Finlay. A good match between the two. These two revisited their 2024 IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship match, but at a faster pace. Finlay is at an outstanding level. Taichi has achieved the same feat as Hirooki Goto and has been rejuvenated by the man of glory. Taichi won with the Black Mephisto and reached 4 points. Finlay remains on 2 points in the tournament.
In the Main Event, Tsuji defeated Uemura. The best match of the night and of G1 Climax 35 so far. Preliminary evidence suggested it was one of the most anticipated matches after the story we saw at G1 Climax 34. Uemura defeated Tsuji that time, but an injury took him out of the rest of the G1, which eventually allowed Tsuji to reach the finals. A big question mark arose at that moment: what would have happened if Uemura hadn’t been injured? Would he have won the tournament? Would he have prevented Zack’s summer? Would he have won the Championship at Wrestle Kingdom? A parallel reality that is no longer relevant. What concerns us now is the confrontation in Sendai. A very even match between the two, almost on par with what they displayed last year in the tournament. In the final stretch, Tsuji executed the Gene Blast to take the victory and reach 4 points on the standings. Uemura remains at 2 points with the Boltin tiebreak in his favor.

G1 Climax 35 action continues in Nagaoka on July 23, with the main event featuring Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Shota Umino in Block B of G1 Climax 35. This is a rematch from the main event at Wrestle Kingdom 19 earlier this year at the Tokyo Dome. Sabre Jr. prevailed to retain the Top Prize of NJPW on January 4 and promises Umino to show him an even harder side of him.
