New Champions Crowned and Mystery Opponents Revealed at Marigold GRAND DESTINY 2025

By: Noah Leatherland

The much hyped Marigold GRAND DESTINY is officially in the books, with plenty of surprises and big results to send ripples through the joshi scene. A trio of new Marigold champions were crowned and the mysterious competitors only known as ‘M’ and ‘S’ were revealed.

Megaton was the first one to find out her mystery opponent. The familiar notes of Ayumi Nakamura’s ‘Kaze Ni Nare’ played throughout the Ryogoku Kokugikan as Minoru Suzuki was revealed to be the one known as ‘M’. Making his Marigold debut, Suzuki made quick work of Megaton. He submitted Megaton with the Gotch Style Piledriver – with Megaton telling the referee to stop the match before Suzuki could drop her on her head.

The next match saw Chika Goto find out that the ‘S’ stood for Sareee. Sareee was last seen in Marigold back in January when she lost the Marigold World Championship to Utami Hayashishita. Sareee’s return to Marigold turned out to be triumphant as she scored a pinfall victory over Goto. Sareee is still scheduled to compete in STARDOM NIGHTER, making her appearance in Marigold all the more surprising. There has been a lot of speculation over what Sareee’s next moves might be after losing the IWGP Women’s Championship to Syuri at King of Pro Wrestling. Sareee spoke on her future in her post-match comments:

Gochika told me in the ring, ‘Come back to Marigold again,’ so if you guys are calling me, I’ll come. I’m a freelancer and I move freely. I only get in the ring when I want to, making the most of my freedom as a freelancer, and that’s what Sareee’s pro wrestling is all about.

In the trio of championship matches on the card, the Marigold Twin Star titles were the first to be defended. The representatives of Darkness Revolution, CHIAKI and Misa Matsui, managed to topple the reigning champions in Magenta. Magenta finish their time with the tag belts as the longest reigning Twin Star champions in Marigold’s relatively short history. Maria and Riko Kawahata held the belts for 169 days, but only managing one successful defence.

Mai Sakurai was the next champion to but her prize on the line. She defended the Marigold United National Championship against Victoria Yuzuki. Yuzuki had had an impressive performance in this year’s DREAM STAR Grand Prix, losing in the finals to Miku Aono. She managed to keep that momentum going tonight as she unseated Sakurai, claiming the United National title as her own. This victory made Yuzuki the first woman to have held multiple singles championships in Marigold, having held the Superfly Championship earlier this year. Sakurai’s reign ends at 296 days with six successful defences.

Miku Aono was the next competitor looking to make history. The winner of the DREAM STAR Grand Prix, Aono challenged for Utami Hayashishita’s Marigold World Championship. Aono managed to carry on her winning ways, defeating Hayashishita and becoming the third holder of the world title. Aono’s win also cements her as the first person to win Marigold’s top two prizes, the white and crimson belts. Hayashishita’s reign also ends at 296 days, making her and Mai Sakurai the longest reigning champions in the promotion’s history.

The all-star main event saw Mayu Iwatani face off against WWE’s Iyo Sky. This match marked Sky’s second ever appearance in Marigold, having defeated Utami Hayashishita at last year’s Summer Destiny event. As two of the biggest names in joshi wrestling history went to battle, The Genius of the Sky ended up being just too much for Iwatani. A moonsault press ended the match, with Sky picking up the victory to close out Marigold GRAND DESTINY 2025.
