Misa Matsui Wants Mayu Iwatani To Join Darkness Revolution, Iwatani Underestimating Matsui In Upcoming Title Defense?

Mayu Iwatani is set to defend her Marigold Super Flyweight Title for the first time against Darkness Revolution faction member Misa Matsui on June 5th. The match is part of the Marigold Burning Desire 2025 Tour and will take place at Shinjuku FACE in Tokyo.

Matsui has expressed her excitement stepping into the ring with Iwatani on social media. She indicated that she never imagined she would be facing Iwatani for the first time ever with a championship on the line.

In addition, Matsui mentioned that she wants Iwatani to be part of her faction Darkness Revolution along with Nagisa Nozaki, Megaton & Chiaki.

It’s tomorrow. I want Mayu Iwatani in Darkness Revolution, I’ve been aiming for Super Fly for a long time, I’ve been stubborn, and so on and so forth, I’ve always watched Mayu Iwatani through the screen, and I never thought we’d be standing in the same ring, and that my first time would be in a title match! I’m 100% happy and I’ll win and get everything, and it’ll be the best day ever.

This is the second Marigold Super Flyweight Title opportunity for Matsui as she faced Victoria Yuzuki for the belt back in Feb. 2025. Yuzuki defeated Matsui and retained her title.

While its highly unlikely that Iwatani will join Darkness Revolution, she appears to be taking the challenge of Matsui very lightly as it looks like she hasn’t been preparing much for the bout which is a mere one day away.

Iwatani took to X and to say she will study her opponent (Matsui) “a bit” and even asked if anyone on social media had any information about her.

Good evening everyone. Tomorrow is the Shinjuku tournament! Super Fly title match. No preliminary matches! First match! I’ll study my opponent a bit. This is what Matsui is like! I’m looking for information from anyone who knows anything about her.

Iwatani has held the Super Flyweight Title since May 24th but if she is underestimating Matsui, she could have a very short title reign.
