Mayu Iwatani Wants 15 Year Prodigy CoCo Back In Marigold, CoCo Wants Another Shot At Iwatani

By: Lewis Carlan

There is a new Joshi Puroresu talent that has burst onto the scene and almost immediately earned the title of “future superstar”.

On Nov. 17th at the famed Korakuen Hall, 15 year old luchadora prodigy CoCo challenged the icon Mayu Iwatani for her Marigold Superfly Title at the final event of the MARIGOLD BATTLE HEART 2025 tour. On paper, it appeared to be a major mis-match with the 14 year veteran Iwatani seemingly holding a huge advantage over her young opponent. There was one problem with that theory, CoCo, who was only one when Iwatani made her pro-wrestling debut, didn’t seem to understand the meaning of the word mis-match as she gave an incredible performance that translated into a spectacular match.

While CoCo has shown audiences the immense potential she has over the past year, nobody was expecting the young prodigy to perform as well as she did against such a seasoned megastar. The 785 fans in attendance at the famed Korakuen Hall had to be all in agreement that they were watching the future of women’s pro-wrestling in CoCo.

Iwatani herself was incredibly impressed with the performance of CoCo. During her post-match backstage interview, Iwatani indicated that she really wants CoCo to come back to Marigold and will be waiting for her.

From Mayu Iwatani:

“I successfully defended the Super Flyweight belt for the fourth time. CoCo-chan is 15 years old… wow, that’s amazing, twice my age, twice? Twice half my age? Amazing, because I saw it written that she was born in 2010, and I debuted in 2011, so she was just one year old when I debuted. That’s terrifying. The future of women’s pro-wrestling is just too bright. Well, from CoCo-chan’s perspective, I might seem like an old lady now, but my spirit is still young, and I want to keep defending this belt. But as for CoCo-chan, I really want her to come back to Marigold. I’ll be waiting for her, anytime.”  (H/T goes to meraWRESTLING for the English translation)

CoCo took to social media and thanked Rossy Ogawa for the opportunity and indicated that she wants another shot at Mayu Iwatani.

From CoCo:

Thank you for the Korakuen Hall event!! ️ Mayu Iwatani, even though I thought I gave it my all, it still wasn’t enough. But it’s not over yet .Let me do it again.  Once again, thank you so much to Rossy Ogawa for creating this opportunity. Mayu, I’ll definitely try again. (Translated via Google Translate)

CoCo may have fell short this time around in becoming the Marigold Superfly Champion but you can bet that there will plenty of titles around the waist of CoCo in the future.

While the CoCo is a freelancer, one has to wonder if the thought of signing her to a Marigold contract has crossed the mind of Rossy Ogawa. CoCo would make a tremendous addition to the Marigold roster.

Fans can now confidently place CoCo in the category of future superstars which includes Seri Yamaoka, Victoria Yuzuki & Senka Akatsuki.
