Mayu Iwatani Finds Out About IYO SKY Match On X, Expresses Immense Excitement

Marigold will be holding its GRAND DESTINY 2025 event on Oct. 26th at Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo.

A major match announcement was made today as we found out that the current Marigold Super Flyweight Champion and ICON Mayu Iwatani will go one on one with the former WWE Women’s World Champion IYO SKY.

The bout between the two megastars is aptly named THE DREAM DESTINY.

While this is a massive match that the fans have been clamouring for, Iwatani apparently didn’t know about it and found out about the bout with SKY on X.

Iwatani posted on her social media account that she learned of the match on X, was surprised and then expressed immense excitement.

From Mayu Iwatani:

“Eeeeeeh?!?! I’m finding out about the Ryogoku card on X?!?!  I’m shocked!!!! And it’s a singles match against IYO-san?!  I’m so happy!! I’m in such shock it doesn’t feel real yet! But it’s real! I’m looking forward to it. After seven and a half years. It’s been a long time.”

When Iwatani first joined Marigold back in May, she indicated one of the reasons she signed with the promotion was to have an opportunity to face IYO SKY and Kairi Sane.

The last singles match between IYO SKY and Mayu Iwatani took place on April 30th 2018 at the STARDOM Cinderella Tournament 2018. SKY, then Io Shirai, faced Iwatani in the semi-finals of that tournament in a match that ended in a 10 minute draw.

The bout between Iwatani and SKY at GRAND DESTINY 2025 is expected to be a classic and is the biggest match thus far in the short history of Marigold.
