Marigold superstar and current Superfly Champion Mayu Iwatani has set a few major goals for herself in 2026.
While she offered her congratulations to Saya Kamitani for winning the Tokyo Sports MVP and Fighting Spirit Award, Iwatani admitted she feels some frustration that she didn’t win an award last year.
Iwatani has indicated that she will be aiming to win the MVP award in 2026. She pointed out that Marigold will get crucial recognition when someone from the promotion wins an award.
Another goal that Iwatani has revealed is that she wants to lead Marigold in the new year as the GHC Women’s Champion.
From Mayu Iwatani:
“I feel some frustration because I missed out last year, but I think it’s truly amazing for women to win both the MVP and the Fighting Spirit Award for the first time, so I want to say congratulations. I’m certainly aiming to win it myself next year, but I think that when someone from Marigold wins a Pro Wrestling Award, it will be a moment when we can reaffirm that Marigold has been recognized. I will win the GHC Women’s title and lead Marigold forward.”
Iwatani spoke more about the GHC Women’s Championship as she recently talked with Tokyo Sports.
The current GHC Women’s Champion is Takumi Iroha and Mayu Iwatani will get her opportunity for the title on Jan. 3rd 2026 at Marigold First Dream 2026.

Iwatani stated she wants to be the first person to hold the IWGP and GHC Women’s Titles.
From Mayu Iwatani:
“When it was created, I thought I had to make sure IWGP didn’t lose out to GHC. After I transferred to Marigold, my interest grew even more because Iroha held the title. I want to win this belt to become the first person ever to have held both the IWGP and GHC Women’s titles.”
As Iwatani is aiming to become the 2026 MVP, winning the GHC Women’s Title would be a great way to kick off her campaign.

There is one problem for Iwatani and it’s in the form of Takumi Iroha. Iroha has no intention of being dethroned for her GHC Women’s Championship and will be very difficult to defeat.
Mayu Iwatani will have to be at the top of her game and wrestle a perfect match if she wishes to begin her year by becoming the GHC Women’s Champion.
