Marigold World Champion Miku Aono States The Promotion Shouldn’t Ride On Mayu Iwatani’s Coattails, Needs A Greater Sense of Urgency

By: Lewis Carlan

On Feb. 23rd, the Marigold World Champion Miku Aono successfully defended her title for the second time as she defeated Darkness Revolution faction member CHIAKI.

Being a World Champion comes with great responsibility and Aono has seemingly taken on that role like a true leader. Aono was interviewed recently by Encount and was asked a number of questions regarding Marigold. She make it known that her aim to raise Marigold higher and be the leader of the promotion that only a World Champion can be.

Aono was asked how she viewed the promotion today after it’s debut nearly two years ago and Aono gave an honest answer. She stated that they should not just hang onto the coattails of Maya Iwatani and that everyone should feel a greater sense of urgency. She indicated Marigold needs to raise its overall level and called Victoria Yuzuki a “standout talent”.

From Miku Aono:

“I still think it’s very much a work in progress. It’s far from complete, and that includes myself. With so many mid-tier and young wrestlers, I feel we need to raise the overall level. Of course, there are standout talents like (Victoria) Yuzuki, and I believe every wrestler wants to climb higher, but I don’t think we’re at our best right now. I don’t think we should just hang onto (Mayu Iwatani)’s coattails; I want everyone to feel a greater sense of urgency.”

Miku Aono was also asked about the champion she hopes to become during her reign. Aono stated that she wants to be to symbol of Marigold and lead the promotion into the future.

From Miku Aono:

“The symbol of Marigold. I want to be a wrestler who can proudly say that. I absolutely have to go higher. I defeated Takahashi Nanae, and now I carry so much on my shoulders. I’ll carry this promotion’s pride and its regrets, staying strong in body and spirit. I’ll keep evolving alongside the crimson belt and lead Marigold’s future.”

Miku Aono’s next bout will be on March 8th against SYOKO Koshino as Koshino embarks on a Trial of Seven Battles. The match will not be for the Marigold World Championship.
