Today, The Golden Star took to SNS to give an update on his condition to fans. He performed his match against Naomichi Marufuji for NOAH, promoted as a dream match, with a broken ankle, and broke his second ankle during the match.
He will undergo surgery tomorrow to operate on both of his ankles and heal up any other remaining injuries. In his update, Ibushi said “I hope tomorrow’s surgery will be a success. If I’m able to walk, then that’s enough. I don’t need anything else.”

In now deleted tweets, Ibushi took aim at a network of clinics in Japan called C5 he claimed use ineffective alternative treatments that harm patients.
On January 7th, Pro Wrestling NOAH issued a press release apologising for the situation, and saying that he suffered from a right tibiofibular ligament tear and a right ankle lateral ligament complex injury.
It is unknown when Kota Ibushi will return to the ring, but he has stated previously that once his contract with AEW runs out, he will be retiring from in-ring competition.
