Overcoming Fears To Make Your Dreams Come True: Wakana Uehara On Winning Her First TJPW Title

By: Pep S. Caro

TJPW completed their second tour in the United States this year and have the momentum on their side after doing a sold out on every single show of the three they did in Texas. Also, they held WRESTLE PRINCESS VI, event with a better attendance number compared to last year and where Ober Eats, team conformed by Yuki Kamifuku and Wakana Uehara, defeated Kyoraku Kyomei, team conformed by Shoko Nakajima and Hyper Misao, to win the TJPW Princess Tag Team Championships. What comes next is Additional Attack ’25 this October 18th at Korakuen Hall. One of the matches of the card is for those tag titles: Ober Eats (c) vs Yuna Manase and Toga. After winning the first title of her career, Wakana Uehara, known as the “Big Eater” because of her videos eating big portions of food and her known passion for trying new food, is ready to defend the titles with Yuki Kamifuku.

A week before participating in the title defense, I was able to talk with Wakana Uehara and she was very kind to answer all the questions that covered a variety of topics related to her present in TJPW.

Monthly Puroresu: You kicked off the summer by facing Yuki Kamifuku in MLW in the United States and doing the TJPW Texas Tour. What are your thoughts on the matches you had in the United States? What are your impressions of the people you faced?

Wakana: Many of my matches in the United States were significant ones in my pro wrestling career, including singles and title matches. In MLW, I faced my current tag partner, Yuki Kamifuku-san, and truly felt her strength firsthand. That experience lit a fire in me, I wanted to stand beside her as her tag partner and move forward together, shoulder to shoulder.

Monthly Puroresu: How do you feel competing in the US?

Wakana: In Japan, the audience usually cheers through applause, while in the United States, fans express their support with loud voices. Wrestling in that kind of atmosphere made me feel absolutely incredible. I was so happy to hear so many people shouting, “WAKANAAAAAAA!!!”

Monthly Puroresu: You then returned to Japan and competed in the Tokyo Princess Cup 12. You defeated Suzume, but were eliminated by Yuki Arai. What are your thoughts after competing this year? What impressions did your opponents leave on you?

Wakana: Before the Tokyo Princess Cup, I had actually lost to Suzume-san in a match in Dallas, Texas, so I entered the tournament with a strong determination to beat her this time. Suzume-san was really tough, but I managed to win through persistence and sheer willpower. It was only the second time in my career that I’ve scored a direct victory over someone more experienced than me, so I was truly happy.

Last year, I was eliminated from the Princess Cup by Yuki Arai-san, so I was determined to advance further this year. I felt that I had grown, especially after pinning Suzume-san, but Arai-san had also gained a lot of momentum and I couldn’t win. I really want to face Arai-san again in next year’s Princess Cup, and next time, I want to win.

Monthly Puroresu: In the weeks leading up to the tag team title match, you suffered a severe blow to the mouth that caused you to lose a few teeth. It was a moment that caused concern among your fans. What are your thoughts after that experience? Do you think it changed your perspective on professional wrestling?

Wakana: When I lost my teeth, I was so devastated that I honestly thought I might never be able to step into the ring again.

But then I remembered how professional wrestling had saved my life, how my fans were waiting for me, and how I still had a dream — to become a world superstar. I knew I couldn’t give up here.

From that moment on, all I focused on was recovering in time for the tag team title match.

Having overcome that hardship, I feel like there’s nothing left to fear.

Monthly Puroresu: At WRESTLE PRINCESS VI, Ober Eats defeated Kyoraku Kyomei to win the Princess Tag Team Championships. It’s your first title. What are your thoughts after the match?

Wakana: Anyway, I just feel relieved.

I lost some teeth in an accident, but in exchange, I gained the championship belts. If that accident hadn’t happened, I might not have fought with such burning passion, and maybe I would have lost. Overcoming that setback and winning the titles has really given me confidence.

Monthly Puroresu: What impressions do you have of the former champions as competitors?

Wakana: We had actually faced Kyoraku Kyomei once before in a title match in Las Vegas, and at that time, I felt they were a very high wall to overcome. Nakajima-san’s athleticism and Misao-san’s unique creativity made them a truly challenging team. This time, I believe we were able to win by breaking their rhythm and taking control of the match.

Monthly Puroresu: At TJPW Additional Attack ’25, Ober Eats will defend the belts against Yuna Manase and Toga. What are your expectations for this match? What are your impressions of the challengers as competitors?

Wakana: Manase-san used to team with Kamifuku-san, but now I’m the one teaming with her, and that’s exactly why I can’t afford to lose. I want to win this match and prove that I’m the tag partner who truly deserves to stand beside Kamifuku-san!

As for Toga, she’s one of my peers from the same generation, and we actually started training on the same day as trainees. Because of her size and power, she’s been seen as “the strongest among those who debuted in 2023,” but in this match, I’m going to show everyone that I’m the strongest!!!

Monthly Puroresu: Thank you so much for participating in this interview. Finally, do you have any message for your fans and the TJPW fans reading this?

Wakana: Thank you always for your support!!

I was able to overcome the hardships and win the championship belts because of all your support!

There may be many tough and difficult things in life, but don’t give up! Take it slow, at your own pace, even if it’s just one small step forward. I believe that beyond the challenges, a bright future is waiting for you!
