The Strength as an Idol and as a Wrestler: Miu Watanabe on Her Present in TJPW

TJPW is making history this weekend as they will celebrate their first ever Pro Wresling show in Thailand: TJPW LIVE IN BANGKOK. The event will be celebrated at The Circus Studio in Bangkok on December 13th. One of the matches of the card is the first ever defense of the TJPW Princess of Princess Champion in Thailand: Miu Watanabe (c) vs Matcha. Miu Watanabe defeated J-ROD in November to retain her title. But, has also a possible title match with Suzume at Korakuen Hall on January 4th if she successfully defends against Matcha in Thailand.

Miu Watanabe is a member of the idol group Up Up Girls (Pro Wrestling) and it’s a TJPW Grand Slam Champion and a two times TJPW Princess of Princess Champion.

A week before participating in the title defense, I was able to talk with Miu Watanabe, a year later after our first interview, and she was very kind to answer all the questions that covered a variety of topics related to her present in TJPW.

Monthly Puroresu: You’re part of Up Up Girls. You make the fans cheer with your music and dancing, as well as with your work in the ring. What does being part of Up Up Girls mean to you, both personally and professionally? What’s the relationship like between the group members?

Miu Watanbe: For me, performing live and wrestling are all one thing. I want to bring happiness to the fans who support us, as well as to people who haven’t met TJPW yet. Up Up Girls (Pro-Wrestling) has both wrestling and live performances, so I believe we can become a truly unique entertainment idol group. I want us to grow much bigger from here and chase many dreams together as Up Up Girls(Pro-Wrestling).

Monthly Puroresu: You competed in the USA and Malaysia in 2025. What would you like to highlight or can tell us from each of those experiences? How was competing for those different crowds?Is there any other country that you would like to visit?

Miu Watanbe: In the USA, Las Vegas left the biggest impression on me! It was my first time visiting, so everything felt amazing.
I was very impressed by the glittering city, and I was happy to be able to wrestle in such a bright and shining city of entertainment, and the fans welcomed me warmly.

Malaysia was memorable because it was my first time visiting another Asian country. It was a special event combined with an idol live show, so the fan energy was incredible. I was surprised to see so many people enjoying two Japanese cultures at once! It made me want to spread what we do even more widely.

As for countries I would like to visit, I am a big fan of Disney, so I would like to visit countries with Disney, such as Paris, Shanghai, Hong Kong, and California!

Monthly Puroresu: You have two important single matches coming soon. What has the preparation process been like to face Matcha in Thailand in December and Suzume in Korakuen Hall in January and what do you think of them as competitors?

Miu Watanbe: Right after I received Suzume’s challenge, I also received a challenge from Matcha, who told me that I could choose what I wanted to do, so we discussed it and I chose to accept both challenges.

My goal ever since I debuted has been to introduce pro wrestling to people who don’t know it yet. Even after becoming champion, I want to broaden my perspective, think globally, and aim even higher. Having a title match overseas is a big plus for that. And with this sparkling, special Princess of Princess Championship, I want to use everything I have to make it shine even brighter.

It will be my first match against Matcha, but I’m determined to defend the title and take the belt into my match with Suzume on January 4th. That determination is my biggest driving force right now.

In terms of preparation, Matcha’s personality and wrestling style are still hard to read, so I’m being very cautious. But I think I can lift her, and I keep running through the image of victory in my mind.

Suzume is coming to sting me with sharp stings like a hornet, so I am wary of that. Especially, RKO stopped me completely once in the preliminaries, so I’m very prepared for it.

I want to defend against both of them without fail and head to Ryogoku Kokugikan and beyond, which I can see at the beginning of the new year!

Monthly Puroresu: We want to know a little more about Miu. Could you please tell us about your hobbies?What is a normal day in your life like when you don’t have a match?

Miu Watanbe: I love exercising, and thinking about pro-wrestling is a big part of my life, so I spend a lot of time training or at the dojo.
I also love idols, so I go to live shows and take a Polaroid with them! The idol I support is so cute, so I’d love for everyone to check her out!!!

Monthly Puroresu: You have faced international stars this year like Willow Nightingale or J-Rod. Is there any opponent from around the world that you haven’t faced yet that you would like to face?What kind of match would you like to have?

Miu Watanbe: My matches with Willow and J-Rod were both very fun and unforgettable.
I’ve only crossed paths briefly in a tag match, but I’ve been interested in Billie Starkz for a long time! She’s cute, crazy, and wrestles with such joy, watching her makes me excited too!

Monthly Puroresu: Thank you for participating in this interview. Finally, do you have any message for your fans and TJPW fans around the world?

Miu Watanbe: I always feel so happy seeing support from so many different places! Even when we’re far apart, your support reaches me!
I hope TJPW can hold shows in more countries around the world! I believe TJPW is a promotion that brings happiness and makes people happy, so I want to go meet all the people who haven’t discovered us yet! Please wait for us!!!
