After the New Japan Pro Wrestling Twitter account released a statement the wrestling world was shocked with the announcement of Hiroshi Tanahashi as the new president of the company. After a great campaign from Takami Ohbari, who helped NJPW through the pandemic era and worked to reinforce the company here in the West, Tanahashi joins a list of active wrestlers who have or have been in prominent roles for wrestling companies. Just like his master Keiji Muto did with All Japan Pro Wrestling in the 2000s, Tanahashi is still going to be an active wrestler!

What’s great about this is that Tanahashi will still wrestle in Wrestle Kingdom 18 against the NJPW World Television Champion, Zack Sabre Jr. When you think about Sabre beating literally his boss via submission things start to get really interesting. We know how certain wrestlers deal with fighting their bosses thanks to DDT and NOAH, who have wrestlers in prominent roles, such as Sanshiro Takagi or Naomichi Marufuji, but nothing in the level of this.
No one could even imagine something like this could even happen, but it did, because 2023 is a magical year for pro-wrestling and it’s not over just yet!
