Dump Matsumoto Biopic Series Delayed After Lead Actress Injury

By: J. Curbelo

In June of this year it was announced that a Dump Matsumoto biographical TV series would be produced by screenwriter Osamu Suzuki and directed by Kazuya Shiraishi for Netflix. Japanese actress and comedian Yuriyan Retriever was selected for the role of All Japan Women’s feared top heel of the 1980s.

To prepare for the show, Yuriyan -real name Yuri Yoshida- was set to train with Matsumoto’s legendary arch-nemesis, Chigusa Nagayo. Yuriyan expressed excitement about preparing for the role and series production. Unfortunately, towards the end of October it was announced that the actress suffered an injury to the head and back after several retakes of a scene involving bumps.

Doctors examined Yoshida, and ordered her to rest for at least two weeks. However, it was recommended that she shouldn’t go back to filming until she’s fully recovered no matter how long that takes. As a result, production on the series has reportedly been halted and postponed.

There is no further information at the moment on Yuriyan’s physical well-being, so it’s possible that The Queen of Villains may not meet its estimated release timeframe of 2023. Despite the accident, the actress is still promoting her comedy tour on Twitter, which is set to start on November 20th all the way to December 16th, so it’s safe to say she’s healthy enough to perform verbally. We wish her a speedy, full recovery.
