Pro Wrestling NOAH were in Korakuen Hall today, fresh off of last week’s WRESTLE ODYSSEY event. A title change surprised the fans in Tokyo as Dragon Bane defeated Galeno for the GHC National Championship.
Dragon Bane was walking into Korakuen Hall as a firm underdog. At WRESTLE ODYSSEY, he and Alpha Wolf had lost the GHC Junior Heavyweight Championships to Daga and Daiki Odashima. Challenging Galeno also marked Dragon Bane’s first singles match since a time limit draw against partner and brother Alpha Wolf in May. You need to go back to November of last year for Dragon Bane’s last singles victory, where he won the N Innovation Tournament, before going on to unsuccessfully challenge Daga for the GHC Junior Heavyweight Championship.
Having near exclusively wrestling in tag team matches for almost a year, and coming off of another title loss, Dragon Bane’s victory over Galeno was a true upset. This ends Galeno’s reign at 188 days, having made 4 successful defences.
There were other notable victories on the show, particularly in the main event. The returning Yoshiki Inamura scored a pinfall on GHC Heavyweight Champion KENTA in their tag team match in the main event. They are already set to collide for KENTA’s championship on November 8th.
