DDT Pro-Wrestling announced today that Sanshiro Takagi suffered a severe eye injury and will be forced to miss any in-ring action for the foreseeable future.
Takagi was a participant in the inaugural UNIVERSE CUP tournament at Pro Wrestling NOAH’s UNIVERSE MAGIC 2026 on April 6th. He made it to the finals of the tournament against Naomichi Marufuji. It was during the course of this match where Takagi was injured.
Late in the bout, Marufuji attempted a maneuver while in the corner and in doing so, his right heel caught the eye of Takagi. Takagi quickly went down holding his eye in obvious pain. The referee checked on him and soon after Marufuji applied a submission hold which forced Takagi to tap out.
After the bout Marufuji and the referee checked on Takagi with great concern. Takagi’s right eye was cut and noticeably swollen as he left the ring.
Takagi had his eye examined at a medical institution and the diagnosis determined that he has a fracture of the inner orbital wall, an orbital floor fracture, and a nasal bone fracture. For the time being he will be sidelined and recovery from his injuries.
