The New Japan Cup 2026 tournament, which began back on March 4th, came to an electrifying conclusion on March 21st at a sold out Aore Nagaoka with over 3,000 fans on hand for the event.
United Empire’s Callum Newman faced “Heat Storm” Yuya Uemura in the New Japan Cup 2026 finals which served at the main event. To reach the pinnacle point of the tournament, Newman defeated Shota Umino and Uemura got past Oleg Boltin on March 20th which set up the showdown between the two.
Fans on hand and watching on NJPW World were expecting a very competitive bout and that is exactly what they received from Newman and Uemura. Both combatants went into the match knowing the importance of coming out as the victor and they fought their hearts out to achieve that goal.
Newman entered the match with an injured arm and Uemura placed his concentration on Newman’s disadvantage early on.

The two warriors spent nearly 26 minutes hitting big offensive moves on each other trying to secure a victory. There were numerous near falls throughout the match as each exhibited a “never give up” attitude.
In the end, it was Newman hitting his Make Way finisher on Uemura to emerge victorious at the 25:52 mark and earn the distinction of being the winner of the New Japan Cup 2026 tournament. Newman, at 23 years of age, is the youngest man ever to win the prestigious tournament.

With his victory, Newman will now go on to face the IWGP Heavyweight Champion Yota Tsuji on April 4th at NJPW Sakura Genesis.

In other action, the NJPW World TV Champion Konosuke Takeshita kicked off the event with an open challenge which was answered by House of Torture’s Yujiro Takahashi. Takeshita successfully defended his title against Takahashi after putting him away at the 8:10 mark.
