NJPW and CMLL’s Fantastica Mania tour took over Korakuen Hall for the penultimate event of the series. Having lost in the Fantastica Mania Tag Tournament final, Averno quickly bounced back as he took Atlantis Jr.’s World Historic Light Heavyweight Championship.
Averno’s title win didn’t exactly come cleanly. His fellow rudo Magnus had a heavy hand in dictating the flow of the bout. Despite Atlantis Jr.’s valiant efforts, the underhanded tactics and interference got the better of him. Averno finally made the champion tap out to a modified figure four, taking the title and ending Atlantis Jr.’s near three year reign with the belt.
Having held the title for so long, Atlantis Jr. is not quite ready to step away from it:
This defeat hurts like hell. I’ve defended this belt for over three years, so it’s absolutely brutal. But I’ll admit you were stronger than me. I learnt a lot tonight. Still, I’ll take you on, Averno. Give me a shot as the first challenger for this title.
The main event saw a special singles match between Mascara Dorada and Hechicero. Fresh off of winning the Fantastica Mania Tag Tournament, Dorada brought high energy and a lot of fight to his opponent. He took full advantage of the Korakuen Hall geography, nailing Hechicero with a quebrada off the entrance frame.
Dorada’s risk-taking drove him to success, coming out on top in the main event.
The event also saw the second of Shoma Kato’s send-off matches before he heads to CMLL on excursion. Kato went one-on-one with Titan, coming out on the losing side. However, Titan was sure to praise the Young Lion in his post-match comments:
From the moment I first saw him, he was strong, hungry for victory, and clearly eager to learn. And crucially, he possesses charisma. That’s why I believe he will succeed in Mexico.
