A True Champion: An Interview With AJPW Triple Crown Titleholder Kento Miyahara

By: Lewis Carlan

There is zero doubt that Kento Miyahara is the face of All Japan Pro-Wrestling and has been for many years. He is currently in his seventh reign as the AJPW Triple Crown Champion and at 37 years of age has showed no signs of slowing down.

On March 20th, Miyahara will make his sixth defense of his seventh reign as Triple Crown Champion against the current Gaora TV Champion Kuma Arashi at Esforta Arena Hachioji Main Arena.

Despite his extensive preparation for the title defense, Miyahara took time out of his very busy schedule and spoke with Monthly Puroresu about a variety of topics.

Here is the Monthly Puroresu interview witn the current AJPW Triple Crown Champion Kento Miyahara:

Monthly Puroresu:
On March 20, you will defend the Triple Crown Championship against Gaora TV Champion Kumoran. How much of a threat do you feel Kumoran poses to you and the Triple Crown Championship?

Kento Miyahara:
As a former Wrestle-1 wrestler, Kuma Arash is a threat because he’s both big and fast.

Monthly Puroresu:
Were you surprised that Kuma Arashi announced his challenge immediately after winning the Gaora TV Championship?

Kento Miyahara:
I think he’s feeling the most confident right now after defeating Sekimoto.

Monthly Puroresu:
How satisfied are you that you defeated Jun Saito and prevented him from winning the Triple Crown Championship for a second time?

Kento Miyahara:
I think I’ve taken my game to the next level by defeating Jun Saito.

Monthly Puroresu:
You have won the Triple Crown Championship seven times. Your first title came in December 2016. What differences do you feel between your first title win and your seventh?

Kento Miyahara:
I think this is the most exciting period in Kento Miyahara’s career.

Monthly Puroresu:
Is breaking Suwama’s record of eight title wins your ultimate goal?

Kento Miyahara:
I’m not even thinking about Suwama.

Monthly Puroresu:
The Champion Carnival is approaching. How are you preparing for the league matches? Are you doing any special training to accommodate the packed schedule?

Kento Miyahara:
Since the Champion Carnival consists of singles matches, I’m increasing my running drills.

Monthly Puroresu:
Who do you consider your biggest threat in the Champion Carnival?

Kento Miyahara:
I want to compete as the champion and win the tournament.

Monthly Puroresu:
If you win and retain the Triple Crown, is there a challenger you’d like to name?

Kento Miyahara:
That’s something to look forward to at the Champion Carnival.

Monthly Puroresu:
Cyrus has frequently declared his intention to win the Triple Crown. What is your response to him?

Kento Miyahara:
I’m not thinking about that right now. It will depend on how the Champion Carnival goes.

Monthly Puroresu:
Among the younger wrestlers, who do you think can lead AJPW for the next 20 years? Is it Yuma Anzai, or someone else?

Kento Miyahara:
Kento Miyahara.

Monthly Puroresu:
Do you have any desire to reform the tag team “Xceed” with Go Shiozaki and compete in the 2026 “World’s Strongest Tag Team League”?

Kento Miyahara:
I’ve forgotten about Xceed.

Monthly Puroresu:
AJPW’s event attendance has increased over the past year. Do you expect this rise in popularity to continue into 2026?

Kento Miyahara:
It will likely increase even further.

Being able to express a more down-to-earth side of myself that’s different from who I am in the ring.
