By: Lewis Carlan

The legendary Meiko Satomura ended her incredible thirty year career as a professional wrestler on April 29th as she competed in her final match. Korakuen Hall was filled to capacity at the Sendai Girls event in which Satomura ended her career with a victory as she and Manami defeated Chihiro Hashimoto & Aja Kong. Satomura pinned Kong to win the match for her team. Satomura teamed with Kong as they faced  Chihiro Hashimoto, Mika Iwata, Takumi Iroha, YUNA & Senka Akatsuk in one final unscheduled match that ended in a 5 minute draw.

Following her final triumphant bout, an emotional Satomura had these comments:

“Thank you to everyone who came to watch my retirement match today. I am truly happy to be able to step down from the ring surrounded by all the people I have met over the past 30 years. I will devote my life to making the new era of professional wrestling even more wonderful! Thank you very much.”

Now that her career as an in-ring competitor has come to an end, many had wondered what would be next for Satomura. She spoke with Tokyo Sports and Satomura, one of the founders of Sendai Girls,  gave some insight on what her goals are going to be going forward.

From Meiko Satomura:

“My goal is to discover superstars and bring back the heyday of women’s pro wrestling, so I want to travel not only to Japan but also to various countries around the world to find good talent. Athletes like wrestlers, judoists, boxers, etc. would be good. Uta Abe? Ah, she’s a charismatic and good athlete, isn’t she?

In addition, Satomura indicated that she hopes to work until the age of 80 and would like to be known as madam of the pro wrestling world.
