Taiji Ishimori & Robbie X Win NJPW Super Jr. Tag League, Three-Way Set for Vacated Titles

By: Noah Leatherland

The NJPW Super Jr. Tag League wrapped up at Power Struggle in Hiroshima, with the tournament finals pitting Unbound Co. against TMDK. Taiji Ishimori and Robbie X claimed the trophies, with Mistico making a big announcement following the match.

The tournament final ended in a flash. After going back and forth for a little over ten minutes, Ishimori caught Kosei Fujita in a roll-up, and held on tight enough to secure the three count. Just like that, Ishimori and X claimed the trophies and won the NJPW Super Jr. Tag League. As Ishimori and X celebrated their victory, winning the tag league after failing in last year’s finals, Mistico made his way into the ring, brandishing both IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Championships, and took the microphone.

Hiroshima! Robbie, I’m here tonight to return this belt. Despe won’t be able to fight for a while. Robbie, Ishimori-san, congratulations. I’m going to return this belt right here in front of tonight’s winner. But I want to be the first challenger. Whether my partner is Japanese, American, Mexican—whoever it may be.

Ishimori took the microphone and responded:

Mistico, I don’t know who your partner is, but I want this tag team belt back. And Fujita, Robbie—you guys, got anything to say? What’s the matter, hey? You don’t like that, huh? Fine, whatever. So, how about this? How about we do a three-way match?

Speaking in their post-match comments, Fujita accepted the challenge:

There’s no doubt that Taiji Ishimori and Robbie X were the strongest today. I’m certain of it. But hey, the league champion asked me, ‘Want to do a three-way match?’ Of course, let me do it.

At present, there is no date set on a the three-way match for the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Championships. While Power Struggle saw several matches being made for Wrestle Kingdom, there is still two months until NJPW reaches the Tokyo Dome, and they may decide to crown new champions sooner than that.

There is also no update on when fans can expect to see El Desperado back in action.
