NJPW ventured to Gifu for the fifth day of the Super Jr Tag League. B Block was in action, with the field of six effectively being halved as three teams remain in contention to win the group.
First up, AEW’s The Swirl came up against the House of Torture tandem of Dick Togo and SHO. Blake Christian and Lee Johnson’s high-flying displays led them to victory, ultimate flinching the victory with their Brainrot double team finisher. The win pushed them up to 6 points, adding the pressure on in the following matches.
The IWGP jr. Heavyweight Champion YOH and Hyo faced Unbound Co.’s Titan and Daiki Nagai. Sitting on 0 points, Titan and Nagai were already firmly eliminated from B Block contention, and their luck did not change in Gifu. YOH and Hyo landed their 3K combination on Nagai and scored the 2 points, joining The Swirl in the B Block race.
The Ichiban Sweet Boys went at it against United Empire’s Francesco Akira and Jakob Austin Young in the main event. Both teams entered Gifu on 4 points, meaning that it was do or die for both teams. Akira and Young were at odds all match, with Akira looked to compete more fairly, while Young looked to take the low road, directing Zane Jay at ringside. The misaligned values would end up being their downfall. Kosei Fujita pinned Young off of the Thrill Ride, keeping TMDK’s tournament hopes alive.
As such, Ichiban Sweet Boys, The Swirl and YOH and Hyo all have a chance to win B Block on the final day on November 1st. Fujita and Robbie Eagles have a tiebreaking win over The Swirl, and are set to face YOH and Hyo in their final block match. Meanwhile, The Swirl will face Akira and Young.
