NJPW held the third day of the Super Jr Tag League in Korakuen Hall, with the race remaining tight. While others failed to reach 6 points and push out in front, Mistico and Masatora Yasuda finally got out of the starting blocks.
Having suffered losses to Master Wato & KUUKAI and Time Splitters V2, Mistico and Yasuda’s tournament campaign got off to a rocky start. In the main event of day 3, they faced off against Taiji Ishimori and Robbie X. Ishimori and X started the day leading A Block on 4 points. Others had caught up by the time they stepped into the ring. So, a win over Mistico and Yasuda would have rebuilt their lead.
However, Mistico’s elite skill and Yasuda’s desire was too large an obstacle for the Unbound Co. duo. The closing moments saw Mistico avoid Robbie X’s X EXPRESS, capitalizing with a destroyer and finally La Mistica. Yasuda prevented Ishimori from making the save, and X had to submit from the pain running through his shoulder.
Mistico addressed the Korakuen Hall crowd, and sung the praises of his young partner Yasuda, who stepped up to take the place of the injury-withdrawn El Desperado:
Japan! Japaaaaan! I love you all! Tonight has been a wonderful night—because this young man gave it his all. It’s this kind of hard work that paves the way to stardom. While the search for the next talent is ongoing in Mexico, I’d like to try it here in Japan, too. Please don’t forget that my heart is always with you all.
In this league, I want to keep racking up victories alongside [Yasuda]. His dedication is truly remarkable. Someday, he’ll conquer the world. If needed, I’d be more than happy to serve as his mentor. Desperado, I dedicate this match to you. I’m praying for your speedy recovery. Someday, the three of us—including [Yasuda]—should team up. Japan, New Japan Pro-Wrestling, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for your overflowing love. And thank you for all your support. My heart is with this country and all of you wonderful people. Gracias, New Japan!
Despite receiving such praise from the legendary luchador, Yasuda still had some frustration to vent in his own backstage comments:
I’m really still a long way from where I need to be—I can’t do anything on my own, and I’m always relying on Mistico for help—but when this series ends, I’m going to make sure people say, ‘That was Yasuda’s series!’ It’s frustrating that I can’t do anything on my own, but for now, I’m just going to give it my all and do whatever I can.
