New Japan Pro-Wrestling NEVER Openweight Champion Aaron Wolf is having quite the remarkable rookie year. First, he is a two time NEVER Openweight Champion and won the belt the for first time in his debut match. The second feat he accomplished was being the first rookie ever to enter the G1 Climax tournament.
While he had high hopes for the G1 Climax 36 tournament, Wolf was hit with a dose of reality as he finished with four wins and five losses and ended the G1 with 8 points which was not enough to get through to the semifinals.
In a recent interview with Tokyo Sports, Aaron Wolf discussed his participation in the G1 Climax 36 tournament for the first time. Wolf revealed he was disappointed with his performance in the G1 but pointed out that he feels he has grown as a pro-wrestler during the tournament.
From Aaron Wolf:
“While I feel frustrated, I also truly feel that I’ve grown through the G1. I think I’ve expanded the range of my wrestling style.”
Wolf was asked what his most memorable bout was in the G1 and he mentioned that the match with Zack Sabre Jr. is the one that stands out for him.
From Aaron Wolf:
“It was a match against one of the world’s top technical wrestlers. I tried to pull out all the stops from my judo repertoire, but in the end, I was pinned by a move I’d never seen before. It was a match that really drove home the depth of pro wrestling,”

Aaron Wolf stated that the most disappointing moment of the G1 Climax 36 for him was being forced to miss the Finals event due to a health issue.
From Aaron Wolf:
“As a professional, not being able to compete is something that simply shouldn’t happen. I want to make sure this never happens again. Even though the official matches were over, I wanted to see it through to the very end. I wonder if I let my guard down,”
Kosei Fujita recently called out Aaron Wolf for his NEVER Openweight Title. Wolf is expected to defend his title against Fujita in the near future.
