The field continues to narrow in the TJPW Tokyo Princess Cup, with the quarter-finals held in the Tokyo Ryogoku KFC Hall. The final four have been decided and the semi-finals are set for August 16th.
First up, Arisu Endo faced off with HIMAWARI to get the tournament action underway for the day. It was a very evenly matched affair. As the two countered each other back and forth, it was HIMAWARI who landed the final blow, driving Endo into the mat with the Sunflower Tempest.
In her post-match comments, HIMAWARI was riding the high of her victory:
I’ve made it through to the quarter-finals of the tournament! It feels a bit surreal. But this feels like the peak of my life right now—I can’t quite put my finger on it. My emotions are all over the place. I intend to ride this wave of momentum all the way to the title and let my sunflowers bloom in full splendour this summer.
Next, Toga came up against Yuki Aino. Aino was coming off her huge win over Miu Watanabe, and this bout proved to be a similarly physical contest. Despite the heavy blows and slams, it was a submission that decided who advanced. Toga wrenched on Aino’s leg with a modified Stretch Muffler, forcing her more senior opponent to tap out.
Speaking in her post-match comments, Toga shared her determination to go all the way:
I never thought I’d stand a chance, but Yuki’s passion rubbed off on me too. My name and character might not be exactly ‘hot’, but having weathered the heat of [the Tokyo Idol Festival], I want to win the championship this summer and prove that the blue flame is the strongest.
Following that, Rika Tatsumi was drawn up against Hyper Misao. Though these two are very familiar with each other in the ring, having just faced off for the Princess Tag Team Championships at TJPW Summer Sun Princess, this was their first singles encounter in over five years. Misao brought her best to Tatsumi, determined to advance into the final four. However, Tatsumi proved to be too much of a challenged in Ryogoku. Tatsumi locked in the White Dragon Sleeper and forced a submission.
In the post-match comments, Tatsumi proclaimed her intention to burn through the competition, no matter what:
Hyper Misao, who’s been fighting alongside me all this time. I love her dearly, but I absolutely couldn’t afford to lose this year, so although it was a tough call, I had to take her out. The semi-final line-up features players I hadn’t imagined would make it this far, which I think is a welcome change, but my own progression was exactly as I’d expected. I intend to sweep everyone aside.
Then, in the main event, the International Princess Champion, Suzume, faced off with Shoko Nakajima. Nakajima pulled off a huge victory in the previous round, defeating the world champion, Yuki Arai. At times, it looked like Nakajima was about to get back-to-back wins over TJPW champions, but Suzume battled back with all her might. Her determination paid off. Finally, the Ring a Bell cutter connected, driving Nakajima into the canvas with enough force to keep her down for the three count.
Speaking backstage, Suzume relished in the winning feeling:
It was all a bit too much for me at first and I couldn’t stop shaking, but I’m glad I’m a pro wrestler. I gave it my all, and I realised just how much fun pro wrestling is. This way of fighting is definitely the right one. I’m going to keep flying around all summer!
