Pro Wrestling NOAH was in Shinjuku FACE for Monday Magic, with an unfortunate headline coming as the biggest news from the event. Mayu Iwatani, who is in the midst of recovering from injury, appeared to vacate the GHC Women’s Championship.
Mayu Iwatani made her way to the ring and addressed the fans in attendance, saying:
I really wanted to wrestle today, and I wanted to make it back in time for WRESTLE MAGIC, but… because of my injury, well, I fractured the bone in my big toe. I’m really sorry it’s turned out like this, but I’ll be vacating the GHC belt.
Yeah. I’m extremely frustrated, and this is the first time I’ve ever had to vacate a title because of an injury, so it’s really frustrating. I wanted to make this belt more and more my own, and I wanted us to grow together even more, but… once I return, I’ll definitely come back for this belt again.
Until then… until then, I’ll have to say goodbye for a little while. But I’ll absolutely win it again, so when that time comes, please come support me again!

I’ve had to give up my GHC belt. It’s a real shame. But giving it up has given me a new goal!

It doesn’t look like it’s healing at all, and I’ve been told that surgery might be on the cards when I go for a follow-up in two weeks’ time.
I’ve never had an operation before, so there’s no way I’m having one.My shoulder turned out to be better than I thought 😄
It’ll probably be fully healed by the time my leg’s better!

Mayu Iwatani won the GHC Women’s Championship back in January at Marigold First Dream from Takumi Iroha, and then went on to make three successful defences. NOAH has announced that the next champion will be decided at WRESTLE MAGIC on June 15th. The competitors are yet to be confirmed.
Mayu Iwatani still holds onto the Marigold Superfly Championship at time of writing.
