The NJPW Fantastica Mania Tag Team Tournament came to an end in Osaka. El Sky Team, Mistico and Mascara Dorada, emerged from the field as the victors, with a shiny trophy marking their success.
El Sky Team met Averno and Magnus in the finals of the tournament. As two thirds of the reigning CMLL World Trios Champions, Mistico and Mascara Dorada’s tag team chemistry had helped them through the first two rounds. While Averno and Magnus put up a tough fight, Mistico and Dorada proved just too much.
Following the match, Mistico took the microphone to address the fans in Osaka, alluding to El Sky Team potentially appearing more in NJPW:
Mascara Dorada and Mistico have something we wish to achieve in Japan. That journey began tonight. Thank you so very much!
Mistico’s high stakes matches in Japan are not over yet. On February 27th, he is set to defend his CMLL World Light Heavyweight Title against Soberano Jr. in Korakuen Hall.
The Osaka event also saw the first of Shoma Kato’s send off matches, with the Young Lion heading back to Mexico with the CMLL cohort to begin his excursion. He was on the losing side of a trios match, with him, Master Wato and OKUMURA falling to Yoshinobu Kanemaru, SHO and Yujiro Takahashi.
Wato had some words for Kato following the defeat:
Kato, as fellow Osaka natives, we feel this deeply. It stings. But listen, Kato, don’t forget this defeat when you set off. Go out there, learn everything you can, grow stronger, and come back.
Kato also had some things to share himself:
Today’s the Osaka Trio, and what’s more, it’s the Hanshin Fan Trio too. Well, amidst all that, they held my farewell match for me, and I ended up getting a goddamn annoying parting gift. I’ll go to Mexico, get big, and pay them back for this. OKUMURA-san! I look forward to working with you in Mexico.
