By: Lewis Carlan

New Japan Pro-Wrestling superstar Yota Tsuji has the distinction of being able to call himself a double champion as he holds the IWGP Heavyweight Title & IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship. He had made the determination that he would defend the IWGP Heavyweight Title in Japan only for NJPW and face challengers for the IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship while he is outside of Japan on a global scale.

On Feb 27th, Tsuji will travel to New Jersey and defend the IWGP Global Heavyweight Title against AEW superstar Andrade El Idolo at the NJPW New Beginning USA event.

Tsuji spoke with Tokyo Sports recently and indicated that he is looking forward to his match with Andrade El Idolo as he has always wanted to face him in a singles bout ever since he was known as La Sombra.

Tsuji then revealed that he has great interest in defending the IWGP Global Heavyweight Title at Arena Mexico which is the the home of Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre. Arena Mexico is considered to be the most important Lucha Libre stage worldwide and is known as the Cathedral of Wrestling.

In addition to expressing his desire to defend the IWGP Global Heavyweight Title in Mexico for CMLL, Tsuji named the very opponent he wants to challenge him for the championship.

Tsuji said he would like to face CMLL superstar Ultimo Guerrero with his Global Heavyweight Title on the line. When Tsuji was on excursion in Mexico for CMLL, Guerrero was his mentor and soon he hopes that Guerrero will be his challenger for the IWGP Global Heavyweight Title.

The two met back in June 2025 at Arena Mexico for the CMLL Presenta NJPW Fantastica Mania Mexico 2025. Tsuji, known simply as Yota, won the match by DQ.
