In another surprising announcement, New Japan Pro-Wrestling confirmed today that long time superstar Hiromu Takahashi will be leaving the promotion. This comes one week after NJPW announced the departure of another long time superstar EVIL from the promotion.
Takahashi’s last scheduled appearance for NJPW will be Feb. 11th at THE NEW BEGINNING in OSAKA. He is set to team with Taiji Ishimori as they face Francesco Akira & Jacob Austin Young.
NJPW apologized to the fans about the sudden announcement regarding Takahashi.
Here is the full press release from NJPW:
“Thank you for supporting New Japan Pro-Wrestling. After careful consideration and discussions with NJPW management, Hiromu Takahashi, who has been a long standing member of the NJPW roster will leave New Japan Pro-Wrestling. We apologise to fans for the sudden nature of this announcement. Hiromu’s final scheduled appearance with NJPW will be at New Beginning in Osaka on February 11. New Japan Pro-Wrestling wishes Hiromu Takahashi the very best in his future activities and invites fans to show their support on his remaining appearances with NJPW.”
Takahashi debuted for NJPW back in Aug. 2010 and is widely considered to be one of the greatest junior heavyweight’s of all time. He is a five time IWGP Jr Heavyweight Champion and most recently he held the Pro Wrestling NOAH GHC Jr Heavyweight Championship.
