On Jan. 27th, STARDOM held a press conference in Tokyo as Kamitani and Starlight Kid were on hand to officially sign the contract for their upcoming championship bout.
The two superstars both had an opportunity to speak and and it turned into a mini war of words between Kamitani ad Starlight Kid.
Starlight Kid was the given the mic first and she began with a lengthy statement:
From Starlight Kid:
“I’ve been shown so much jealousy and frustration by Kamitani. I’ve been conscious of Kamitani ever since my first loss to her in 2020. Even when I held the Wonder of STARDOM belt, and even now, I’ve been told various things and been tossed around quite a bit… but she’s also been a driving force for me in many ways. This will be our sixth singles match, and we have a history of moves between us. My ‘Kokko Kyakusatsu,’ also known as ‘Sakibashiru na Kamitani,’ is a move I developed specifically for my Wonder of STARDOM match against Kamitani. And then there’s Kamitani’s ‘Star Crusher,’ ‘Sakibashiru yo Kamitani.’ These are moves that I was the first to be hit with, moves that led to my defeat. Even so, I’ve only managed one win against her so far. But because I have so much frustration and emotion towards Kamitani, I strongly believe that I must defeat the current Kamitani and create a new era. I don’t want to see that same frustrating scene again, and I want to take everything from her. I, the only masked wrestler in STARDOM, will become the face of STARDOM. And winning against Saya Kamitani, who has so many achievements… that means becoming not only the face of women’s pro wrestling, but the face of pro wrestling itself. I will carry a great deal of responsibility, and I’m going into this match with that resolve. And I want to achieve my first true Grand Slam and wipe away the tears of frustration I shed in that unforgettable Wonder of STARDOM match. As I’ve been saying for a long time, the person I least want to lose to is Saya Kamitani.”
Kamitani responded with a statement of her own which led to her and Starlight Kid engaging in a verbal battle.
From Saya Kamitani:
“You know, your stories are as long as ever! You go into so much detail, I thought my ears were going to get calluses! Well, you see, Saya-sama still has so many ‘nightmares’ she wants to see with this Red Belt, so I can’t give this title to you. Well, as Kid was going on and on about just now, the jealousy? Envy? I’ve always felt that from Kid since I was a rookie. I always thought, ‘She’s always so noisy! So nagging! Always clinging to me!’ Well, to put it in one word… I always thought, ‘She’s such an annoying senior!’ Well, the move I developed at that time was five years ago… five or six years ago? The move I first used against you, the move I first won against you with. It was the Star Crusher. Do you actually know the true meaning behind that move?”
From Starlight Kid:
“Before that, I remember clearly. The first time I lost to you wasn’t with that move. I remember everything. Well, I suppose that is all it amounted to for Kamitani. Well, stop dragging it out and just say it already.”
From Saya Kamitani:
“Saya-sama doesn’t look down. I only ever look up, so there seems to be a slight difference in our memories. …Well, let’s put that aside. Do you want to know the meaning of the Star Crusher? I’ve always said that Star Crusher means ‘to crush the star players,’ but there’s actually another meaning. Starlight Kid. I originally created this move specifically to crush you. To shut you up, since you are so talkative, long-winded, and nitpicky. On February 7th in Osaka, I am going to sink you right into this shining STARDOM ring.”
Both Kamitani and Starlight Kid appeared to be focused and locked into their huge upcoming match at STARDOM SUPREME FIGHT IN OSAKA 2026.
Saya Kamitani and Starlight Kid have met five times in singles matches in the past. Kamitani holds a commanding 4-1 lead over Starlight Kid and hopes to get her fifth victory over Kid.
As of this writing, Kamitani has held the World of STARDOM Title for an incredible 395 days. Starlight Kid hopes to end Kamitani’s reign at 405 days on Feb. 7th when the two meet for the coveted Red Belt in Osaka.
