Megaton: Marigold’s Loveable Loser and Her Quest For a Victory
By: Lewis Carlan
June 23rd 2025 is a significant date for Marigold Joshi Puroresu competitor Megaton. It was on this date that Megaton last saw herself on the winning side of a professional wrestling bout. That victory occurred during an episode of NOAH Monday Magic Prime Time Season #4. Megaton teamed with Misa Matsui & Miyuki Takase and they defeated Great Sakuya, Takumi Iroha & Sora Ayame via DQ.
While Megaton was celebrating in the ring little did she know that this match was going to be the final time that she would taste victory in 2025.
Megaton made her debut with Marigold back on Jan. 11th 2025 and aligned herself with two powerhouse wrestlers Bozilla and Tank. She debuted as a monster competitor with the promotion and it was her intent to place fear inside the hearts of her opponents. Well, that was the intent, it just didn’t translate into the fearsome pro-wrestler Megaton had hoped for. Let’s face it, she didn’t scare anyone.

While teaming with Bozilla and Tank, Megaton tasted victory in her first three bouts in Marigold.
Her fourth match for Marigold was a singles encounter with one of the best female wrestlers in the world in Utami Hayashishita. Megaton was totally outclassed by the superior Hayashishita and was defeated in just over five minutes.
In a recent interview with Monthly Puroresu, Megaton acknowledged that Hayashishita has been her toughest opponent to date and hoped to score a win over her in the future.
From Megaton;
The most difficult one was definitely my singles match against Utami Hayashishita right after my debut. Utami’s moves were top-notch, both in terms of sharpness and power. And she had beautiful eyes! I felt that tension, knowing that if I let my guard down even for a moment, she’d take me down in an instant. Honestly, during the match, I was painfully aware of how lacking my own strength was. But at the same time, my desire to become stronger and win in this ring was more burning than ever. I’ll never forget the kind words the fans gave me after the match. “Even if you lose, Megaton is still Megaton!” they told me. Those words really touched my heart. That match made me who I am today.I hope to face Utami again someday, and this time, repay her with a win. Gaaoo!“
Megaton’s next singles bout came against MIRAI which was another loss but this time she lasted almost nine minutes. Megaton teamed with Bozilla over the next few matches in Feb. 2025 before losing her third singles bout to Gigaton.
In Feb. 2025, a new faction was formed within Marigold consisting of Bozilla, Nagisa Nozaki, Misa Matsui, CHIAKI & Megaton. The quintet called themselves Darkness Revolution.
After Bozilla departed Marigold in April 2025, Darkness Revolution became a quartet. While Nozaki, Matsui & CHIAKI all worked well together, it was apparent Megaton didn’t quite fit in with the faction. Darkness Revolution were losing numerous matches with Megaton normally taking the fall.

The patience of Nagisa Nozaki, Misa Matsui & CHIAKI wore thin with Megaton and she was eventually banished from Darkness Revolution.
Once gone from the group, Megaton went through a transformation as the former “monster” became “cute” and even “lovable”.
Megaton suddenly had the backing of the fans as they embraced this new version of the Marigold star and her popularity soared.
She found herself teaming and aligning with competitors she once would consider an enemy such as Kouki Amarei and Chika Goto.
One thing was now certain, the fans much preferred the cuddly version of Megaton and she did not disappoint as her new behavior was put front and center.

One very negative aspect of Megaton’s transformation was she began to lose and lose often. The losing became so bad that from June 28th through today, Megaton has not gotten her arm raised once in victory.
As of this writing, Megaton has been on the losing end of 53 straight matches.
Whether it be singles, tag team or multi-woman bouts, it’s always seemed that Megaton was the one going down in defeat.
On Dec. 10, Megaton engaged in a singles bout with Chanyota at Marigold True Victory in Tokyo. Chanyota made very short work of Megaton, winning in 26 seconds.
Megaton, obviously frustrated, asked for an immediate rematch and was defeated again by Chanyota in 32 seconds. Megaton wanted one more chance and lost a third time to Chanyota, this time she lasted a bit longer losing is just under four minutes.

On Dec 27th, Megaton entered the Marigold Twin Star tournament and her partner was the Marigold World Champion Miku Aono. Despite having Aono as her teammate, the two lost in the first round to Seri Yamaoka & Shinno when Megaton tapped out to a Shinno submission hold.
On Dec 31st, Megaton competed in the Marigold Rookie of the Year tournament but was eliminated in the first round as she was defeated once again by Shinno.
In her first match of 2026, Megaton faced a mystery opponent at Marigold First Dream 2026 who turned out to be Kuroshio Tokyo Japan. A similar situation occurred in this match as in the Chanyota bout.

Megaton lost to Kuroshio in one minute. She asked for a rematch and lost again in about one minute. She asked for another rematch and lasted about 90 seconds in the third bout.
Despite being on a massive losing streak, Megaton has remained positive throughout. She can been seen at many of her backstage post-match interviews acknowledging the losses and vowing to work harder in an effort to finally get a victory.
While speaking with Monthly Puroresu, Megaton was asked her about the losing streak. She vowed not to give up and said that even though she is losing, she will keep getting back up as that’s the Megaton way.
From Megaton:
“That’s right, I’ve been on a bit of a losing streak. But, as long as I have the “Gaaoo!” from the fans, Megaton won’t give up!! The cheers I hear from the audience after a loss are like an energy drink in the ring! Laugh before you get depressed! Laugh even when you lose! And then I shout “Gaaoo!” together with the fans! That’s my best way to power up. Next time, I’ll place everyone’s “Gaaoo power” on my back and I’ll definitely win!! Getting back up even after losing is the Megaton way! Gaaaooo!!
After over six months of losing, the fans have been rallying around Megaton as they are anxiously awaiting for that losing streak to come to an end. People at the venues want to see Megaton finally get that much sought after victory.
That big win to end her lengthy losing streak is hopefully coming in 2026 and when it does, that will be a cause to celebrate for the loveable competitor known as Megaton.
