Q&A w/ Maria on Marvelous, Magenta, Chiaki, Life + More!

Marvelous Pro Wrestling is a company that inherited the legacy of the hard hitting Japanese wrestling style from the 1980s All Japan Women’s Pro Wrestling and the 1990s and 2000s GAEA. The promotion, founded by CRUSH GALS member Chigusa Nagayo and one of the most influential wrestlers of her generation, is enjoying a great moment as it begins its tenth anniversary activities.

The atmosphere in Marvelous and women’s wrestling has become more lively in Japan with the roster members winning championships and having exciting performances. Before the beginning of the Winter, I was able to talk with Maria, member of Magenta, in what was her first interview with any international media outlet after losing the Marigold Twin Star Championship. Maria was very kind (?) to answer all the questions that covered a variety of topics. Of course, she answered in the way that only Maria can do it. Similar to what Riko did some days ago.

Monthly Puroresu: The last time we were able to chat was weeks before Magenta made a complete change and won the Marigold Twin Star Championships, defeating Nanae Takahashi and Seri Yamaoka. What are your thoughts on that match and the former champions?

Maria: I had a single match against Nanae san after around six months since I made my debut.

At that time, I was comparing myself to other wrestlers who made their debut at the same time with me. I felt that I have no strengths or whatsoever. But I faced my weaknesses and overcame them.

That match was a turning point for me, and it remains deeply etched in my memory. I’m happy that Magenta got the belts once held by Nanae and the others.

And I think it’s a great result as a fresh start for Magenta.

Monthly Puroresu: At Marigold Shine Forever, Marvelous lost in a 5-on-5 elimination match. What are your thoughts on this match? What are your thoughts on the Marigold representatives in that match?

Maria: Honestly, while Marvelous Pro Wrestling doesn’t have many wrestlers and our teams are always the same, I wondered why Marigold has so many wrestlers but their members are always their best wrestlers.

It would have been more exciting if more wrestlers fired up for the rivalry had stepped up into the ring.

Monthly Puroresu: Magenta then defeated Takako Inoue and NØRI of LLPW-X. What are your thoughts on this match? What are your thoughts on those competitors?

Maria: It was my first match against NØRI san.

Takako san has always been beautiful, and I like that she has a great sense of style which is also shown with her costume (gear). So, I was happy to fight against her.

I believe that we became a bit closer through this match?!

Monthly Puroresu: Magenta successfully defended the Marigold Twin Star Championships against Mai Sakurai and Chanyota. What are your thoughts on this match? What are your thoughts on the challengers?

Maria: Magenta retain our title against those two.

I thought that the lady, Sakurai, was a very dispassionate person. But she has a burning passion inside.

Chanyota’s physique is really great! Many wrestlers are slim or short now. It’s incredible that she trains that hard.

 

Monthly Puroresu: Magenta adopted Johnnie Robbie during part of Johnnie’s tour in Japan and in recent months have been teaming with Chikayo Nagashima. Why did you decide to include them as part of the “Party Gang”?

Maria: The reason why we let Johnnie and Chikayo san join us is that it seems very interesting and exciting.

Whether we add more members depends entirely on our mood.

Monthly Puroresu: At Marvelous, Magenta racked up several victories during the spring and summer. Do you think the time is right to face SPARK RUSH for the AAAW belts? What are your impressions of Takumi Iroha and Sareee as competitors?

Maria: I don’t think the two are perfectly in sync. Takumi san makes a good tag team with anyone. But, that’s not the point.

I do believe that Riko is the best tag team partner for me and that’s what tag teams are about.

We’ve been targeting the AAAW tag team champion belts for ages, and those belts must belong with us.

Monthly Puroresu: It was decided that you would represent Marvelous at the Marigold Dream Star GP 2025, replacing Senka Akatsuki. You finished the tournament with three wins and four losses. Let’s start with the victories. What are your thoughts on those matches? What are your impressions on the competitors?

Maria: Out of them, Chiaki left the strongest impression.

It was the first time I nearly got kissed by someone at the beginning of a match. I’ll never forget that.

Well, in the end, I gave her a farewell kiss myself before sending her to hell.

Monthly Puroresu: But you lost to Mayu Iwatani, Utami Hayashishita, Victoria Yuzuki, and Seri Yamaoka, which prevented you from winning the Dream League. What are your thoughts on those matches?

Maria: We didn’t fight seriously and play around a bit too much, but I reckon that it was what stuck in everyone’s minds.

I still want to play, so I want to wrestle against them again.

Monthly Puroresu: In August, Marvelous lost another 5-on-5 elimination match against Marigold. What are your thoughts on this match? What do you think of the Marigold representatives in that match?

Maria: Same as above!

Monthly Puroresu: Magenta competed in Friday Night Gacha, defeating Hibiscus Mii and Kyusei Ninja Ranmaru. What are your thoughts on this match? What do you think of the opponents?

Maria: I thought that I got an offer from “Kin Gacha” finally but I was shocked that the opponent were Hibiscus Mii san and Kyusei Ninja Ranmaru san.

The match was an impactful bout but I was frustrated that they controlled the match.

Most importantly, I enjoyed the match a lot.

Monthly Puroresu: However, we haven’t seen Magenta compete in MONDAY MAGIC yet. Are you interested in competing in that other Wrestle UNIVERSE show? Do you have any message for NOSAWA Rongai?

Maria: I do believe that Magenta is the most entertaining and best tag team right now.

Not asking Magenta to compete at “Monday Magic” means that he has no sense organizing wrestling events!

Monthly Puroresu: We’ve seen you’ve participated in many high-level matches with opponents from all over the world. If you could choose to face one opponent that you haven’t face yet in a singles match and one in a tag team match, who would you like to face?

Maria: As I’ve said before (preview interview), I really want to fight against Takumi Iroha in a singles match.

I became a pro wrestler because I admired Takumi san, but I’ve never had a chance to have a singles match with her. Time passed since I made my debut. So, I have bigger expectations and pressure from everyone around me now, but I still really want to fight against Takumi Iroha.

 

Monthly Puroresu: On October 26, Magenta lose the Twin Star Championships against Misa Matsui and CHIAKI at Marigold Grand Destiny 2025. What are your thoughts on this match?

Maria: I’m saying this after the match, so here are my thoughts: The Ryogoku event had loads of matches and big guests. While winning or losing the matches is important, we prioritized leaving a strong impression as Magenta in the event.

We ended up losing, and Chiaki even kissed me… it was awful. But I think we were able to fight by showing our true selves.

Monthly Puroresu: Over the summer, Takumi Iroha traveled to Spain to represent Marvelous and Pro Wrestling NOAH in a match for the RCW Women’s World Championship and the GHC Title. Are there any countries you’d like to visit and represent Marvelous?

Maria: There’s not one specific. I’m a curious person, so I want to visit loads of countries!

Monthly Puroresu: We’d like to know a little more about Maria. Could you tell us about your hobbies and the things you like? Currently, what’s a typical day in your life like?

Maria: My hobbies are eating delicious food, designing, and sleeping!

Right now, I’m loving NARUTO! I read all the chapters before, but I’m reading it again from the beginning. I also want to read One Piece from the start again.

Basically, I train, make merchandise, eat loads of food, chat with Riko, and sleep!! Haha!

Monthly Puroresu: Thank you so much for participating in this interview. Finally, do you have any message for your fans and Magenta’s fans around the world?

Maria: Magenta is living freely, doing what we want right now, so you’ll like Magenta more. We’ll make you do so. We’ll make the women’s wrestling industry more exciting and greater. Please look forward to it.
