New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s WRESTLE KINGDOM 20 is two months away but ticket sales are thriving for the Tokyo Dome show.

A press conference was held today to promote the annual NJPW event.

NJPW President Hiroshi Tanahashi announced that 31,548 tickets have been sold to date for WRESTLE KINGDOM 20.

By contrast, WRESTLE KINGDOM 19 had a final attendance of 24,107 while WRESTLE KINGDOM 18 saw 27,422 fans at the Tokyo Dome for its event.

A big reason for the increase in ticket sales is that the legendary Hiroshi Tanahashi will have his final match at WRESTLE KINGDOM 20.

Tanahashi was asked during the press conference about who he will choose to be his final opponent.

From Hiroshi Tanahashi:

“Yes, well, you know, throughout my career, I’ve fought against many different wrestlers. So, I will make sure to announce the opponent I want to face, so please wait a little longer.”

The Tokyo Dome has a capacity of 57,000 for pro-wrestling events. NJPW seems to be on the road to selling out the Tokyo Dome for  WRESTLE KINGDOM 20.

Here are the matches announced as of this writing for NJPW WRESTLE KINGDOM 20:

  • Hiroshi Tanahashi’s Retirement Match: Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. TBA
  • IWGP World Heavyweight Championship & IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship — Double Title Match: Konosuke Takeshita (IWGP World) vs. Yota Tsuji (IWGP Global)
  • NJPW STRONG Women’s Championship & IWGP Women’s Championship — Double Title Match: Saya Kamitani (NJPW STRONG) vs. Syuri (IWGP)
