Mai Sakurai vs. Victoria Yuzuki for the Marigold United National Championship at GRAND DESTINY 2025

By: Pep S. Caro

MARIGOLD is gearing up for its next major event, MARIGOLD GRAND DESTINY, which will be held at the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan on October 26. The promotion promises to present a high-level lineup following its recent summer tournament, Dream Star GP.

Victoria Yuzuki took advantage of the summer to prove that she’s not only the future of MARIGOLD, but that she can also be its present. Despite losing the Superfly Championship against Mayu Iwatani in May, she proved that her losing streak only lasted in the spring.

In her debut at Dream Star GP 2025, she defeated Utami Hayashishita, shocking the promotion and their fans, as Utami is the current World Champion. Yuzuki remained in contention to advance to the tournament finals until the final day, where she faced Mayu. This time, Yuzuki demonstrated her growth and drew with Mayu on a time limit, but came very close to winning the match. This result, coupled with Kouki Amarei’s victory over Utami, allowed Yuzuki to win this year’s Dream League. Unfortunately, she lost to Miku Aono in the tournament finals on September 14 at Korakuen Hall.

Despite not winning the tournament, Yuzuki decided to challenge Mai Sakurai to a match for the United National Championship, also known as the “pure white belt.” Yuzuki had indicated that she intended to challenge for the championship if she won the tournament, so she apologized to the fans at Korakuen for issuing the challenge anyway. Sakurai seemed happy for Yuzuki’s challenge, but didn’t respond at the time.

Sakurai won the Marigold United National Championship at FIRST DREAM on January 3rd after defeating Miku Aono. She has since successfully defended the championship against Nagisa Nozaki, Chanyota, Erina Yamanaka, Misa Matsui, Chika Goto, and Riko Kawahata. Sakurai has grown significantly as a wrestler since joining MARIGOLD and has made six successful defenses to date.

MARIGOLD confirmed that Sakurai will defend her championship against Yuzuki at GRAND DESTINY 2025, which will be held at the iconic Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo. Sakurai finished second in the Star League and, in her final match at the Dream Star GP 2025, she drew with Aono on a time limit. Yuzuki managed to make a bigger impact, but both women are coming into this match with similar momentum. Who will leave Ryogoku with the “pure white belt”? We’ll find out on October 26.
