Miku Aono Defeats Victoria Yuzuki And Wins The Marigold Dream Star GP 2025

By: Pep S. Caro

Marigold held the Dream Star GP 2025 finals at Korakuen Hall on September 14. Rossy Ogawa’s promotion’s big summer tournament came to a close, bringing with it some great matches on its nine-bouts card. Rea Seto had to miss the show due to having COVID-19. Her match with Seri Yamaoka was canceled, and Seri earned two points, finishing the tournament with eight points but without the possibility of advancing to the finals.

In the first match, Seri Yamaoka, Komomo Minami, Hummingbird, and Yuuka Yamazaki defeated Nao Ishikawa, Minami Yuuki, Nagisa Tachibana, and Megaton. It was a fast-paced match in which the rookies had a few minutes to show their growing confidence and improved in-ring performance. Megaton was once again one of the acts that received the most reactions from the crowd, reaffirming how popular her act is in the promotion. Seri secured the victory for her team over Tachibana.

In the second match, Chika Goto defeated Kizuna Tanaka. The match ended just past the 7-minute mark. The size and weight difference was difficult for Kizuna at times. The number of matches she has had to use kinesiology tape on her lower back during the whole tournament is worrying. Chika took the victory with a chokeslam.

In the third match, MIRAI and Chanyota drew after receiving a 20-count outside the ring. The match was very entertaining until they left the ring. As expected, it was a very physical contest in which both wrestlers exchanged many Lariats. When the match moved to the outside, they had some strong exchanges, but that took them away from the match and they received the countout. After the match, MIRAI showed her frustration. Both she and Chanyota were left wanting to resolve their issues and tried to continue brawling.

In the fourth match, Misa Matsui defeated Nagisa Nozaki. It was an entertaining and unusual bout, as it was a confrontation between members of Darkness Revolution. The match, as expected, moved outside the ring. Both wrestlers exchanged blows with the metal chairs at ringside. Nozaki came close to winning by countout outside the ring, but decided to bring Matsui into the ring, who took the victory after reversing a pinfall. After the match, Nozaki and Matsui demonstrated that the result had not affected the good relationship they have as a unit in D Revo.

In the fifth match, Miku Aono drew with Mai Sakurai in a 15-minute time limit, allowing her to win the Star League title and advance to the tournament finals. The match was very even and faster-paced than the one they had in January of this year. Miku tried everything and demonstrated her versatility by incorporating new moves into her repertoire during the tournament. Sakurai resisted all of Miku’s attempts until the very end. She even refused to tap out when Miku applied the STF at the end. It would have been a great humiliation to lose with her own move. After the match, Sakurai tearfully told Miku that she must win the tournament.

In the sixth match, Maria defeated Chiaki. It was a fast-paced bout that ended before the 5-minute mark. The MARVELOUS Wrestler  and one half of Marigold’s Twin Star Champions didn’t fall for Chiaki’s tricks and achieved an easy victory after landing the Vertical Drop Driver. Matsui intervened on Chiaki’s behalf throughout the match, but it wasn’t decisive.

In the seventh match, Victoria Yuzuki drew with Mayu Iwatani in a 15-minute time limit draw, which kept her in the tournament. Another very even match, in my opinion better than the one they had in May for the Superfly Championship. If there’s one wrestler who has constantly evolved and proven she’s ready to be a Main Eventer, it’s Yuzuki. She undoubtedly got the most out of Dream Star, and in a match against her idol, she didn’t let herself be defeated. Iwatani couldn’t defeat her with either the Dragon Suplex or the Moonsault. Yuzuki came very close to winning, but when the referee was stating the count, they reached the time limit.

In the eighth match, Kouki Amarei defeated Utami Hayashishita by count-out outside of the ring. A surprising ending that stunned the entire Korakuen Hall crowd, and no doubt those watching the Wrestle Universe broadcast. The second result of the night that was decided by a count-out outside of the ring, but this time in favor of one of the competitors. Utami was superior to Kouki for most of the match, but Kouki proved she could outsmart the champion. Utami didn’t expect this, and it’s worth noting that if it had been a title match, Kouki would have been the new Marigold World Champion, since in Japan, championships can also be won by a count-out outside of the ring. This result allowed Yuzuki to win the Dream League and advance to the finals of the tournament.

In the Main Event, Miku defeated Yuzuki to win the tournament. It was a good match between the two, as expected from a tournament final. Yuzuki was greatly cheered on by the Korakuen Hall crowd. Both wrestlers used their entire arsenal to try to take the victory. Miku managed to defeat her after executing the One Second EX she inherited from Nanae Takahashi. The story and outcome of the Marigold Dream Star GP 2025 are fascinating, as both Miku and Yuzuki share a bond with Nanae. Yuzuki, who lost the final, lost to Nanae in the first match of the first event of the promotion in 2024. Miku, who won the tournament, defeated Nanae in her retirement match on the first anniversary of Marigold in May of this year, using the same move.

After the match, Rossy Ogawa presented the tournament awards, the most notable being those received by Yuzuki and Mayu for Best Dream League Match, as well as MIRAI and Sakurai for Best Star League Match. Yuzuki also took the opportunity to challenge Sakurai to a match for the United National Championship at GRAND DESTINY on October 26. She told Sakurai that she could take some time before accepting the challenge. Furthermore, Miku officially challenged Utami to a match for the World Championship at the same event, which will be held at Ryogoku Kokugikan. The summer of Marigold is coming to an end, but autumn looks just as inviting.
