Saya Kamitani & AZM Set For Double Title Clash on Sept. 27, Both Champions Trade Comments

On Sept. 6th at the STARDOM TO THE WORLD event at Yokohama Budokan, the World of STARDOM Champion Saya Kamitani successfully defended her title against Bea Priestley. With the victory, Kamitani was able to avenge her Aug 17th loss to Priestley at the 5★STAR GP 2025 tournament.

Following her triumph over Priestley, the NJPW STRONG Women’s Champion AZM appeared and confronted Kamitani. As Priestley had done, AZM, also, defeated Kamitani in the 5★STAR GP 2025 tournament as they faced each other in the semifinals.

AZM confronted Kamitani for one reason and that was to challenge her for the World of STARDOM Championship. Kamitani shot back saying that she would defend her Red Belt only if AZM put up her NJPW STRONG Women’s Championship. AZM agreed and a double title match between the two was set and confirmed for Sept. 27th at Korakuen Hall.

From AZM:

“Do you remember losing to AZM in the 5★STAR GP? I’m here to challenge for that red belt. I’m qualified enough, right?”

From Saya Kamitani:

“You already have another belt, don’t you? That purple belt. If you’re willing to put that belt on the line, I’ll accept your challenge.”

Both Kamitani and AZM continued with comments aimed at each other during their backstage post-match interviews:

From AZM:

“I’ve always wanted to have a long talk with Kamitani, so I’m fully qualified to challenge, and since Kamitani said she wants the STRONG belt as well, I’m ready to go for the double title.”

From Saya Kamitani:

“A double belt match between AZM and the World and STRONG belts has been scheduled for September 27th at Korakuen Hall. I don’t know what kind of belt that is, but Saya-sama needs “glory” right now. Saya-sama’s ambition is to become the “MVP of the Pro Wrestling Grand Prix.” I want AZM to be Saya-sama’s stepping stone.”

While AZM and Kamitani have faced each other numerous times in tag team matches since 2019, they have only met each other twice in singles competition. They both hold a victory over the other in singles bouts and Sept. 27th will be the rubber match between the two champions.

Kamitani has been the World of STARDOM Champion since Dec. 2. 2024 while AZM has held the NJPW STRONG Women’s Title since May 9, 2024. The double title match set for Sept. 27th will be Kamitani’s sixth defense and AZM’s second defense of their respective titles.
