On Aug. 2nd, the 601 fans in attendance at the Osaka Edion Arena #2 and everyone watching on Wrestle Universe witnessed something that never occurred before inside a Marigold ring. At the evening Marigold DREAM★STAR GP 2025 event, current Super Flyweight Champion and Icon Mayu Iwatani faced rising blue-chip star Seri Yamaoka in the Dream League block main event.
This was the first time ever that Iwatani faced Yamaoka in a singles match. While the bout was a great one, when the bell rang to end the match, Yamaoka found herself with a 1-0 record against Iwatani. Yamaoka pinned Iwatani in the middle of the ring with her patented German Suplex Aoki Clutch handing the Icon her first Marigold defeat.

While she expressed disappointment, Iwatani, who is a true professional, didn’t offer any excuses for suffering her first Marigold loss. An exhausted Iwatani admitted that she lost fair and square during her backstage post-match interview.
From Mayu Iwatani:
“Ahhh, I lost… It’s the first time I got pinned with a three-count in Marigold… My first loss in Marigold. Seriously… I didn’t just get caught off guard, I straight-up lost.”
This was by far the biggest singles win for the 18 year old rising superstar Yamaoka. She made her debut seven months ago and Yamaoka can proudly add a victory over Mayu Iwatani to her already impressive resume. Fans can expect to see these two in many more singles encounters in the future.
